Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for my Shih tzu with skin problems I originally got this food for my picky pekingese, but she wouldn't eat it. My Shih tzu scarfed it down like it was the best food she ever had. My Shih tzu suffers from severe skin issues and I noticed a huge improvement after she ate this food. I asked my vet if it would be safe to keep her on it and he said it would be fine. So even though this food is for gastrointestinal health, it had the added benefit of improving her severe skin condition.

why is there sugar in this food?

    Asked by: mandiewright
That is a great question! High-quality pet food starts with determining a pet’s nutritional needs first, such as life stage, lifestyle and health conditions. This allows you to find the right balance of nutrients. Once you know what you need, then it’s time to pick the ingredients. This is how Hill's has created balanced foods that have been trusted and recommended by veterinarians for more than 50 years. A balance of quality ingredients delivers protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and minerals to meet a pet's nutritional needs. No single ingredient makes a food better; a pet food is the sum of its parts. Sugar is used as a palatability enhancer in some of our canine products. It also provides a source of carbohydrates. Anytime you have questions on ingredients or nutrition, please feel free to give us a call! We can be reached at 1-800-445-5777 (M-F 8-5 CST). Hill’s Pet Nutrition
