After his third surgery, my vet researched diets for him and decided IVD Modified was the best for preventing the stones. Her practice sold a competing brand, but her research indicated the competitor's food was more likely to cause pancreatitis in his breed. After I switched his food, he never had bladder stones again. The food was safe to feed both my schnauzers, which made life easier for me. I noticed my white schnauzer's (Muffin) tear stains disappeared when she started eating the IVD/Royal Canin food. When IVD became Royal Canin, the quality remained. Other companies seemed to have recall after recall, but their food was safe. Both dogs thrived and lived to the ripe old age of 16. I met someone who had many dogs from the same breeder as my Stormy and he was amazed that my dog lived so long. He told me the oldest their dogs ever made was 14 because they were plagued with kidney issues. I believe those two extra years were curtesy of their Royal Canin diet. When my schnauzers passed in 2012, I adopted a Yorkie mix (Benji) from the local shelter. I tried feeding the brand the shelter recommended, a well known premium brand, but he picked out certain pieces of the kibble to eat and spit the rest on the floor. I'd been buying my dog food at the vet for over a decade so it was a shock to see how many choices there were at the pet store. I discovered Royal Canin breed specific display and was thrilled. I bought a small bag to try and my dog loved it. The kibble was the right size for his tiny mouth and he must have liked the flavor because he didn't spit anything out. His coat improved, he built muscle, he gained 3 lbs (he was underweight when I adopted him), and he seemed happy. I trust the company based on my experience with the Rx formula, the lack of recalls, the condition and health of my dogs past and present. I like that the formulas are created specific to medical and/or breed needs.
Date published: 2015-08-12

Rated 4 out of 5 by shavon55 from Excellent food for picky eaters I love this brand and I recommend it to anyone with a yorkie. My 11 year-old, 2.5 pound Yorkie used to get frequent bladder infections for no apparent reason when she was young. I was so distressed that her veterinarian suggested that I try feeding her RC Yorkie. I switched her to it that day, without even weaning her off of her previous food, on the advice of her vet. She has not had one bladder infection since. In addition, she gobbles RC down! She just loves this food! Her teeth are clean after all of these years, and her breath is fresh. Her coat is shiny and tangle-free. Her stools are compact. She's always happy and healthy. And when she can see the bottom of her food bowl, she stares at me and barks (and she is not a barker!). RC is the best thing I have ever done for her. It's worth every penny to keep her this healthy, happy, and beautiful.
Date published: 2014-11-29

Rated 5 out of 5 by Yorkies from Love Royal Canine for my Yorkies I have a 1 yr. and a 2 yr. old female and male Yorkie. They have been on this food since they were 3 mths. old, and weighing only 2 lbs. They come running as soon as I put Royal Canine into their bowls. I like the idea that it has tartar control, small pieces, and it seems to be excellent for their very small digestive systems. I was very happy to read on Royal Canine's website that there was NO recall on THEIR food, unlike so many others. I rather pay a little more and know that my Yorkies will be healthy from the food they eat.
Date published: 2007-05-10

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jazzmine from Fantastic formula for Yorkies!!!! My little princess loves this food. Is all I can say. My 9 year old silky terrier Prince Bailey a.k.a Bay Bay wouldnt eat anything but grilled chicken, steak, baked potatos with cheese, hamburgers on the grill, tuna or other kind of fish. My wife was telling me about this food and you know how men just half listen, I said go ahead and get it. Next thing you know I get a text saying how he ate his baked chicken and a bowl of RC Yorkshire 29. Couldnt believe it until I saw it. The fussiest palate on earth ate dry dog food? My gosh he will eat 3-5 small bowls a day of it. He is a very lean and muscular 9 year old silky. Never has he loved a commercial dog food so much. Moving wifes 6 week old Yorkie pup to RC Yorshire 29 then they both will eat the 28 in 8 months. This stuff must be pleasing to the palate and olfactory senses because if the Prince ate it...it has to be good. Trust me...its not an exagerration. The pup is trying to get to it. Im so happy about finding this food. It really is awesome. At first I mixed in a small amount as I was worried that changing foods may upset his digestion- but he picked out the R.C. and left the Pro Plan on the side of the bowl. It's been about 2 weeks now and his breath is MUCH better, his coat is softer and really shiny and he seems happy. I really wish it was available in a larger bag for a better price/lb - but Thor has made HIS choice known- so I hope Petsmart keeps it in stock!!
Date published: 2009-12-07

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bolzy78 from My dog absolutely loves this product !! I bought this product a month and a half ago to transition from puppy food to adult food . There were zero issues at all transitioning him and he gets excited whwn it is feeding time.
