Hill's® Prescription Diet® y/d Thyroid Care Cat Food - Chicken is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent My cat has a hyperthyroid (overactive thyroid) and we struggled with giving her pills for a couple of years and her thyroid levels never balanced out. She was always shedding, couldn't keep weight on, and was eatting 3-4 small cans of wet food a day + was being free fed dry food. After putting her on a strict diet of the y/d, her thyroid levels are not well maintained, she eats about a half can of the y/d a day, her coat is silky and shiny. She has always been a small cat, but her weight was down from about 6 pounds to 3.5 pounds before putting her on the y/d diet. She is now consistant at 5.5 pounds. She is still a petite cat, but healthy and active at 16 years old. This product is definitely worth talking to your vet about and giving a try. I could go on and list many other pro's for this product, but the results speak for themselves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product, it works!! Need smaller cans though We had our cat tested in Oct. 2013 and her T-4 results were 14.9. Started the y/d wet and dry food and had her tested April 2015 and her T-4 is now 2.0!! She has gained some weight and is no longer all bones. This is a great option for cats that are too old for the surgery and don't do well on the pills. However, the cans are too large and about 1/4 goes to waste. She won't eat it after a few days old, but loves the freshly opened cans. Smaller cans would be great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can size I was having the same problem with the can size. After the leftovers were stored in the refrigerator my cat no longer wanted to eat it. So when I open up a fresh can, I make little patties and put them in baggies and freeze them. then when I feed her I just pop them in the microwave for about 15 seconds. They are moist and just as fresh as a newly-opened can. Problem solved! No more wasting, she eats every last drop.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not happy Cans are too large..cat won't eat once can has been opened for a couple of days even though kept can in refrigerator and protected from drying out. Even tried heating a little, still no luck. Also, food is too thick. Would be better if it had some juice. Even tried adding a little water. Also might be better if it had a little beef taste.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Too soon to tell My cat has been on this for a month and has gained a little weight. It’s too soon to tell. The product is good but takes 10 days to get here. A prescription food is said to take 3-5 days but it always takes about 10 days. I’m not happy with that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product My cat was hesitant to eat refrigerated remainder also.....so I started to place leftovers from can into a 12 oz Corningware container w/ lid....seems to have done the trick.....maybe the aluminum reacts w/ the air and organic compounds...I don't know, I'm not a scientist, or paid a professional.....we know their noses remain keen even as they age, and smell effects taste....be aware that a fresh can is opened at room temperature, and the initial serving is always devoured.....I've dribbled hot water onto the refrigerated leftover, and have also nuked it for 3-5 seconds.....both have worked !!...or maybe pulling the leftover from frig & warming to room temperature

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I buy it because I can't get anything else My special needs kitty will eat this food, only if I mix it with warm water. The cans are too large for a single meal for my cat, and she doesn't particularly like the food. But she won't go near the dry version of y-d food. I wish there were some sort of low iodine treat I could give her rather than this wet food every day. She's been on it for three weeks now, and I won't know if it is working or not for another three weeks. I'm a vegetarian who realizes that cats are not, but the liver smell is awful. I don't blame my cat for not liking it. I am only recommending this food because there is nothing else available.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Y-D diet helps cat but needs improving The product needs to be more moist. Always need to add water before giving to our cat SMALLER cans would be more efficient. It does not last like other cat food.

do u make thyroid control in a stew? Our cat does not care for the pate-If so could we order one can as a sample?

    Asked by: TBo1
Thank you for your question. Thyroid Care y/d is not available in a stew. To entice your pet to eat the pate, you might try placing the food on a microwave safe dish and warming it for 5-7 seconds to enhance the aromas. You could also try adding a few tablespoon of warm water to one meal. We hope this helps! Hill's Pet Nutrition

I recently purchased this and it seems to have a different consistency. Not as dense. Was the formula changec?

    Asked by: Smea
That’s a great question. To maintain our leadership in nutritional health care for companion animals, Hill’s® will periodically makes changes to product formulas to incorporate additional health or product design benefits. This product was last reformulated in August of 2016. However, the texture of the product did not change. While it is difficult to tell the exact cause for this change in texture, we can assure you that this variation has no impact on the nutritional value of the food. Some possible causes of the variation are the freshness of the product or temperatures the food has been exposed to. A freshly produced product can appear softer or stickier and will generally increase in firmness as it ages. Some formulas with higher starch levels, can take longer for the starch to regenerate into a firmer loaf. If you go from using an older can to a newer can, there might be a noticeable difference in texture. If you would like to speak to us more about this please contact us at 1-800-445-5777 (M-F 8-5 CST). Hope this helps! Hill’s Pet Nutrition
