We adopted 2 Syrian hamsters & went budget wise and bought a large plastic tote. 1 chewed thru the water bottle, so drilled hole/water went on outside. She pushed it out, chewed & 2 critters loose! I went to my local Petsmart & saw this on clearance for @$13. I was sold! Put it together, my main issue is the door. We push & pull the upper bar to make the latches hold (the nob like latch system seems like hamster could push it open). Our girl loves to climb the bars like an acrobat, so we just made a fleece "doggy bed" extra big and a large card board box to reduce the fall impact. It's not the best cage, but definitely worth the clearance price.

I have had this cage for two years or so and love it. It's large and is a decent price. My two adult rats have seemed very content with it. I recently bought a couple of baby rats, and one is doing a pretty good job at chewing her way out pretty quickly. I will definitely want to buy another cage just like this because it's perfect in so many ways. My other rats don't chew through it. Perfect for them. Now on this page looking for a metal bottom cage for my little cage chewer.

In no way WHATSOEVER is this not big enough for anything bigger than a hamster or mouse, (such as rat, ferret, chinchilla, ect) but is almost exactly the minimum sq inches for a hamster (360). For Syrian hamsters would recommend getting something larger but it would be ok I guess and for dwarf or Chinese hamsters this would be fine.
