I decided to go with this bird food because the uneaten smaller seeds of other bird food was germinating once it hit the ground, giving me forests of unwanted wild grasses. I don't know if I bought a bad bag or if these seeds are simply a waste of money.
I've been feeding birds, squirrels, chipmunks and other wild animals for decades. This particular bag of black sunflower seeds goes uneaten by all the animals except for the squirrels. Both of my bird feeders have been full of this seed for several days now. The birds land on the feeders and then leave, not wanting even a taste of these seeds. Whereas before I would have hundreds of birds at each feeder every day I now have none. Quite frankly, this seed is junk.

I had been purchasing name brand competitor Black Oil Sunflower Seed for years and with each passing year the quality of the seed lessened. It no longer was fresh and contained huge amounts of debris. I decided to search for other sellers of Black Oil Sunflower Seed and came across this PetSmart offering. I read the reviews and decided to purchase four 20 lbs. bags Grreat Choice Black Oil Sunflower Seed (2 month supply). I placed my order on 5/11/14 and the seed was delivered on 5/15/14 in excellent condition. All four bags have a Best Used By Date of 08/2015 (fresh seed). When I opened a bag, the first thing that I noticed was how clean the seed was. The freshness and cleanliness of the Grreat Choice Black Oil Sunflower Seed is head and shoulders above their competitors. I cleaned two of my five feeders and filled them with Grreat Choice Black Oil Sunflower Seeds (one feeder also had Safflower Seed added) and these two feeders attracted more birds than the other three feeders this evening. That is impressive as I use high quality seed and make my own mixtures. Grreat Choice and PetSmart have made a positive impression with me.
