How is Medication Given?
Recommended dosage for initial treatment is 0.5 mg-3 mg for every 100 pounds of body weight administered once daily, or administered as divided doses throughout the day. Clinical observation is prudent until an appropriate maintenance dose has been established. Typical maintenance dose falls between 6 mg-36 mg daily. Horses taking thyroid supplements can have widely varying values of serum T3 and T4. For this reason, dosage should always be based on each individual horse's response and requirements. Monitor each day for signs of hypersensitivity or hyperthyroidism.
