DESCRIPTION: Legend treats carpus and fetlock joint dysfunction and joint lining inflammation. This FDA-approved injectable drug can be delivered intravenously or intra-articularly.
Key Benefits:
Legend contains an ingredient called Hyaluronate Sodium. Molecules of hyaluronate are known to be long chains, which form a filler network. These are interspersed with normal cellular fluid. Hyaluronate sodium injections in the joint pouch are believed to enhance inflamed synovium healing because it restores the joint fluid, which lubricates the joints themselves. It is also thought to supplement the viscoelastic properties of the natural joint fluid.
Formulated For: Intended for horses only.
How is Medication Given?
Dispose of unused medication and empty vials once open. Give the horse stall rest following treatment, then resume normal activity gradually. To administer intravenously, slowly and aseptically inject the dose into the animal's jugular vein. Take care to prevent scratching the surface of the cartilage with the needle tip. Swelling may occur and last for 24 to 48 hours if the needle is moved while within the joint space. Use strict aseptic technique to administer intra-articularly. Disinfect the injection site and restrain the animal properly. Aseptically remove any excess joint fluid before injecting. For intra-articular injection, administer a 20 mg (2 mL) dose into the fetlock or carpus. For intravenous injection, administer a 40 mg (4 mL) dose. Re-treat weekly for 3 total treatments. This colorless, low viscosity, clear solution is preservative-free, sterile, and pyrogen-free. This product is approved by the FDA for veterinary use to treat fetlock or carpus joint dysfunction associated with non-infectious synovitis caused by equine osteoarthritis.
What Results Can I Expect? Legend works to restore synovial joint fluid, reduce inflammation in the joints, and reduce the symptoms of joint disease.
