Dose and Administration: Tablets are sold individually in strengths of 22.7, 68, or 136 mg.

Possible Side Effects:

  • This medication can cause urine crystals, which are not to be confused with clinically significant struvite, oxalate, or urate crystals. These crystals will be evident in lab testing, and this condition should be anticipated and monitored for.
  • Damage may occur in the joint cartilage of puppies (8 months or younger). This has only been noted in growing pups and never in cats. Therefore, this medication should not be used in puppies, unless your veterinarian determines that the infection requires this specific drug.
  • Incredibly high doses are often needed to treat pseudomonas ear infection in dogs. In this case, nausea may result.
  • Vomiting and diarrhea may result from overdose (10 times the recommended dosage rate). The recommended dosage rate is unlikely to cause these effects.

    Precautions Fluoroquinolones like Baytril can cause the formation of cartilage lesion in the weight-bearing joints. Therefore, it should not be administered to puppies under the age of 6 weeks. It can affect the growth of the joints.
