DESCRIPTION

Famciclovir is a prescription antiviral drug that treats the symptoms of cats who have FHV (feline herpes virus) or FVR (feline viral rhinotracheitis) infections. These conditions are feline herpesvirus-related infections of the upper respiratory system.

Key Benefits: This antiviral drug is a prescription-only formula known as a nucleoside analog DNA polymerase inhibitor. It prevents viruses from reproducing their DNA, which inhibits their ability to spread throughout the body of your cat.

What Results Can I Expect: Famciclovir treats feline herpes virus and feline viral rhinotracheitis symptoms in cats.

What Form Does Medication Come In? Tablet

Dose and Administration: Tablets are sold individually in strengths of 125, 250, and 500 mg.

Possible Side Effects: This medication is proven safe and effective. However, it is a potent medication that could produce certain side effects, including:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Low-grade fever

    Digestive effects could be mitigated when Famciclovir is given with food. Hypersensitivity is also possible. If you believe your cat is having any type of reaction, discontinue use and notify your vet.

    Precautions:

  • Keep away from children and animals.
  • Do not administer to a cat with a known allergy to Penciclovir.
  • Administer cautiously to nursing cats, cats who have renal dysfunction, or cats taking Probenecid

    Storage Recommendations: Store in a cool and dry location.

    In Case of Overdose: Call your nearest emergency pet hospital.
