Caution: When children are present in the home, it is important to consider the pet door during child proofing activities. The pet door may be misused by a child, resulting in the child accessing potential hazards that may be on the other side of the pet door. Purchasers/homeowners with swimming pools should ensure that the pet door is monitored at all times and that the swimming pool has adequate barriers to entry. If a new hazard is created inside or outside of your home which may be accessed through the pet door, Radio Systems Corporation recommends that you properly guard access to the hazard or remove the pet door. The closing panel or lock, if applicable, is provided for aesthetic and energy efficiency purposes and is not intended as a security device. Radio Systems Corporation will not be liable for unintended use and the purchaser of this product accepts full responsibility for oversight of the opening it creates.

The user, prior to installation, must become familiar with all building codes that may affect the installation of the pet door and determine, along with a licensed contractor, its suitability in a given installation. This pet door is not a fire door. It is important for the owner and contractor to consider any risks that may be present inside or outside of the pet door, and any risks that may be created by subsequent changes to your property and how they may relate to the existence and use, including misuse, of the pet door.

Our only concern is the height of the opening. While our #90 boxer CAN get through it, he has to duck down so low his back legs continue to slip when he does. Our #65 boxer is fine, as he is about 2 inches shorter than the #90 boy. This is better than nothing, but wish there was a taller option.
Date published: 2017-12-26

Rated 4 out of 5 by Engineer Bill from Engineer's comments Installed the small dog PetSafe door. The existing sliding door is nominally 2" thick and the PetSafe door is about 1" thick. The sliding door had a round bead track along the bottom which matched the groove in the PetSafe door. In order to fasten the PetSafe door rigidly to the door frame I used five 1/2" diameter by 1/2" long nylon spacer/bushings and 1" long by #6 screws. Secondly in order to train the Maltese how to headbutt through the flapper, we removed the factory plastic/magnetic flapper with a trimmed cotton washcloth. We still use the guillotine door at night. The plan is to eventually reinstall the factory flapper. Added to the top edge of the sliding door was a second keyed pin-lock from Lowes. The PetSafe lock was installed at the bottom of the slider. Overall was happy with the quality and workmanship of the PetSafe door.
Date published: 2019-05-27

Rated 1 out of 5 by Dagonzrose from To small Tries to put this up my German Shepherd couldn't get in or out... he is less than 100 lbs... will be returning
Date published: 2019-03-12

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jaxy 2016 from Fairly easy I bought this and installed it by myself. We have 4 cats, and while they are not outdoor cats, they still get to go outside for about 2 hours each day--confined to the back yard. While they are out, I want to close the door, but I liked the idea of them being able to run into the house if they encounter something unexpected outside. This door definitely fits the bill! It's like an insert for a patio door. It's meant to be installed and affixed to the patio door, but we don't do that. Instead, when the cats go outside we just open the patio door, insert this into the opening and let the kitties run in and out as they please, and when it's time for them to come in, we remove the insert. It works great! The cats had a time trying to decide whether or not to come through the opening but they finally decided it was okay. The positives: 1) easy and fast to assemble and install (about a 40 minute job), 2) a well made, good looking panel with double pane insulated glass, 3) the dog door works as it should and our dogs used it immediately with little training required, 4) when installed with the supplied screws, the panel will provide the same level of security as a standard sliding glass door. The negatives: 1) once the panel is installed you permanently lose approximately 1 foot (the width of the dog door) of the door opening to go in and out of the sliding glass door, 2) visually, the view out of your sliding glass door changes from 2 large panels of glass to 4 narrow panes, 3) if the color of your door is not white you end up with two door frame colors, 4) once the dog door is screwed in place, half of each glass pane is no longer able to be cleaned without removing the dog door (in my right to left opening configuration, the “outside facing/right half of the slider”, and the “inside facing/left half of the stationary panel” can not be cleaned), 5) a minor detail, the sliding plastic door that allows you to block the dog door does not latch and stay in place when opened; it has to be removed and stored somewhere off of the door. Overall, I would use this dog door if I did not use this sliding door frequently (the narrower opening is a problem for going to and from my deck), and the visual aesthetics were not a concern (the view out of the door is a valued feature of my dining area and the added frame is unwanted). I have two dogs and I find that I'm taking them out several times a day. The pet door was easy to install and actually didn't take up as much room on the door as I thought it would. Both of my dogs went in and out very easily. The color of the product matched perfectly next to my sliding door and I feel like it is very secure. The only thing I found that might be an issue is that my cat is also interested in using the door. The first one worked so well that we decided to add one to our family room sliders. This door fairly easy to install - just follow the directions. My cairn terrier who weighs 24 lbs learned how to use this door quickly and he can now come and go freely. The door flap is magnetic on the bottom so it closes after he passes through and seals up so that insects cannot get in. If you are looking for a pet door that doesn't leave a permanent hole in your door, this is the one to get. Easily removable when needed.
