These docile fish make a great addition to the passive community aquarium and are popular with fish keepers due to their brilliant color and diversity. You will see your gouramis swimming in the bottom of your aquarium. To create a beautiful aquarium environment, be sure to add some middle swimmers as well. Ask a PetSmart associate to help you choose.

These fish are a GREAT option in such a setup; they are larger than the Red Skirt Minor Tetras, Von Rio Flame Tetras, Black Skirt Tetras, Silver Hatchetfish, Dwarf Neon Rainbow Fish, Clown Plecostomus, Otocinclus, Peppered Cory Catfish, and Dalmation Mollies. Also, my tank is quite "red" due to the Von Rio and Red Minor Tetra species, so he adds a pleasing splash of blue to the scene. Mine is extremely peaceful, quite active, and is very happy with the dense planting I've decorated with. He almost exclusively swims in the upper water column, but will happily explore the entire tank when live foods are introduced (will easily snap up brine shrimp out of the substrate). I will say this about the species- they will live well in smaller set ups, but the one in my 65 gallon is much brighter colored and much healthier/happier than the pair I had in my smaller tank (40 gallon). These really are a fish that, no matter the amount of decor and size, will fare far better as an individual in a large community.
Date published: 2016-11-01

Rated 5 out of 5 by KMD23 from Beautiful Fish Definitely the most fun to watch in my tank, the dwarf gourami is nice to look at and constantly exploring and poking around for food. When I put him in the tank he wasn't shy at all, in fact he swam all around checking out the place. He likes to be in charge of the tank and brakes up any fights in the tank. After a while I got a new gourami which was a mistake I made. Both gouramis fought each other and every time I fed them the big gourami would always chase him away. I would recommend getting only one gourami per tank since they are territorial and like to be in control of the tank. Over all they have a great personality and beautiful coloring.
