How do I set up a fire belly toad habitat?

  • House your toad in a glass terrarium that’s 10 gallons or larger.
  • Layer the bottom of the terrarium with 2 to 3 inches (5-8 cm) of aquarium gravel. Slope the gravel up on one side to create a dry area above water level, or use a large dish to create a water area.
  • Use a filter to keep the water clean.
  • Keep the humidity level in the terrarium at or near 80%, monitored with a hygrometer (humidity gauge). Add live plants to the terrarium to help maintain humidity, and mist the habitat if needed with a spray bottle of water.
  • Keep the habitat between 72 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit (22 to 26 Celsius). Install a daytime UVB light and use an under-tank or aquarium heater if necessary.
