I had 2 for 5 cats at the time. Those litterboxes worked very well for almost 12 years when they finally broke. I purchased a newer model 2 years ago (blue one, the elite model) for 2 cats and it was horrible. This model's rake changed. Each blade of the rake used to have some depth to it and the new model's rake were the size of pins (more like a comb). I always used Nature's Miracle in all my litterboxes but this last one just didn't work with it. The rake would clog up all the time leaving an odor or, it couldn't make it through the litterbox and eventually would turn itself off. I bought the Nature's miracle self cleaning litterbox and took a chance as this was their first one. I love all their other products so I figured they probably did a good job at putting this product together. Well, I was not disappointed it. If you use the Nature's miracle clumping litter (as prescribed), it works awesome. I've had it for a month now and the rake doesn't clog, it doesn't get stuck when cleaning the litterbox. The box is a little louder than the other brand name but I don't really care (use the sleep mode if you want). This litterbox works better than my original ones.
Date published: 2012-10-30

Rated 5 out of 5 by MsCSI from Solution to Automatic Litterbox Cleaning Issues I have finally figured out how to save work cleaning litter boxes similar to this model and "Litter-Maid". It takes a little prep work, but you will be all the better for it once you realize how simple it is and afterwards will only require a little periodic maintenance. First get some one-inch "3M" Blue Painters tape, #'must be 3M brand for best sticking quality#, and make sure it is 'Painters tape and not 'Masking tape #too sticky#. Next get a can of Cooking Spray similar to "PAM"; I use a 'Coconut Oil one #smells good too#. Most important is 'before you ever allow the cat to use the box if new #or if you have a used one just wash it real good#, 'lightly spray the bottom of the large litter pan and metal or plastic rake with the cooking spray and lightly wipe off any excess with a paper towel. With the same paper towel 'thoroughly wipe the excess on all other inside surfaces of the litter box #add more spray if the paper towel gets too dry#, remember go lightly. Also spray the top of the litter box door that rises up when the rake moves and then re-covers the 'disposable litter pan, and anywhere else that litter or waste may touch. After completing this step, where the lip of the disposable litter pan inserts in the edge of the larger pan that holds the litter, tear a strip of painters tape about the same length and tape it across that seam, about 10 inches or so, then going left to right, or right to left #depending on which end you start# make sure half of the tape overlaps a little over the edge into the 'disposable pan and the other half of the tape overlaps a little over the edge into the ‘larger litter pan. You might want to first take a little alcohol and remove a small portion of the cooking spray that will have touched these areas where the tape will sit so it will adhere as tight as possible. Add litter and you will be surprised at how the waste and litter won't stick to the bottom, sides, rake or anywhere the cooking spray has been wiped on, and when the rake moves the waste to the disposable pan the 'teeth of the rake will not grab the edge of the disposable pan and drop litter between the seams, it will easily slide the litter right across that tape and into the disposable pan #I sometimes find myself wiping a little cooking spray on the strip of tape as well [after I am sure it is stuck tight] so waste will not stick to it either as the rake moves across it#. Maintenance is just maybe about once a month or so to just re-apply the cooking spray #lightly#. If you find the litter and waste are still sticking too much then you will need to remove the litter and wipe out the pan and add a little more cooking spray. For the disposable tray, I simply remove the tape, dump the waste in the garbage can and put the same disposable tray back in until it is way too dirty to re-use #you could also spray the ‘inside of a new 'clean disposable pan as well which will help the waste to 'not stick to it for multiple re-uses#. I then get a fresh strip of tape and re-apply it along the seam again. Voila!!
Date published: 2015-03-21

Rated 3 out of 5 by LOLOalisoviejo from it's ok but I'm returning. I did a ton of research and this looked like it would work and it does work pretty good but cleaning it is the problem. The containers need to be replaced more than once a week. But there was no smell so that's awesome. My cat went in here numerous times a day so the container filled up quickly. And when you unsnap the container out of the area it is snapped in to, any litter than has gotten around it will pop up and either hit you in face or fall around side of litter box so then you have to clean that up. The directions recommend a thorough cleaning once a month also and I started to do this and then realized that each part I take apart will make all the excess litter pop up and all over the place plus I had to pull out the directions to see how I had put it together. This thing is not light either so to pour the old litter into trash bag is a hassle too. It would probably take me 30 minutes minimum to thoroughly clean this unit and for me, it's just easier to scoop a regular box every day for me. Also, it recommended only using their cat litter but their litter is too sticky and it sticks to the claw and so I had to use the scooper to get it off before it would work, it's too soft once it's wet so I used another litter that clumped harder if that makes sense. So all in all if you have plenty of extra time to do a thorough cleaning each month and you don't mind replacing the container probably twice a week then this unit is for you. The sound didn't bother me at all but I didn't have it near a sleeping area at all. Yes, it's loud but only for about 3 minutes at a time.
Date published: 2013-03-06

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lynn3765 from Best of the Two I Have I have three cats and was tired of sifting litter. I originally bought the Littermaid Elite and it works OK (rake tends to clump up) but I don't like the dust the clay litters tend to throw. I had used the Nature's Miracle litter previously so took a chance on the litterbox. First, the Littermaid box took me 30 minutes to assemble; the Nature's Miracle box took me 5 minutes as it comes almost completely pre-assembled. All you have to do is put on the ramp, install the litter container and fill it with litter. Second, at least for me, the Nature's Miracle box is quieter than the Littermaid. Now, if you want silent you aren't going to get it but the difference between the two is very noticable. I am on a main route so my cats are used to loud noises like fire engines and all sorts of sirens so the "noise" of either box doesn't bother them at all. Wish I had gotten this one as my first box. The litter is also much better..no dust and I think it has a nicer smell to it than the clay litters.
Date published: 2012-11-20

Rated 1 out of 5 by FromTheAshes from Great concept, horribly flawed. It really is a great idea, and I can't say that it's worse than a manual litter box, but it's certainly not worth it's expensive price tag. The waste receptacle sits at the entrance of the box where the cats walk up. To secure the lid for disposal, you push two buttons in and remove the entire piece. The problem is that the cats can easily close the box by stepping on either of those buttons when they enter in to do their business. This causes the automatic scooper to then dump fecal matter and urine all over the top of the box, and onto the floor as well. With three cats, an eight hour work shift can end in a nightmare when this happens. The receptacle boxes are also the same width as the scooper/box so it will often dump litter or other items out of the side corners of the machine. While the sleep timer is convenient for nights, the machine makes one of the most obnoxious screeches I've ever heard when it pushes the litter out. Again, a great concept, and I will continue to use it until I can find a better one, but there are just too many design flaws for me to recommend this to anyone else. Hope this helps!
Date published: 2014-02-16

Rated 1 out of 5 by RaynaSue from Don't know where to start What a PIECE OF JUNK!!! I can't even describe how horrible this is. if there was a NEGATIVE star rating I would give it -100. Where the cats are supposed to go is very small. I have a 4 lb kitten and she has to squish herself up to use this. The recommended litter level is useless. If you fill it between min and max levels, the motor can't handle it. it often has to run at least 5 times back and forth to do it's job. Minimum level is not enough litter for 2 trips to the box. Max level will burn out the motor. It does not keep smell down and I am having to empty the receptacle up to 3x a day to reduce odor. The ''sweeper'' pushes litter OUT of the box as well as in the receptacle. There is a constant dust, even using their litter. The sweeper will sometime stop right in the MIDDLE of the box, making it impossible for the cat to use it. I would NOT recommend this product to anyone. I am at the point I am wanting to throw this off a very tall building and use a regular litter box, since i'm having to scoop anyway. It broke in August 2013. Nature's Miracle shipped a new one which I received September 2013. It didn't last 3 weeks. My brother has had a Littermaid for 8 years with absolutely no issues. I bought Nature's Miracle because it was cheaper. DON'T BE FOOLED - it was a complete WASTE of my hard earned money. I Googled how to fix it because it stuck in the front of the box and I tried numerous times, both times it broke, but the "fix" didn't work. And how sad is it that there are fixes on the internet for this specific brand. It also leaves a ton of litter on the floor, falling between the cracks of the waste receptacle - design flaw. I had to sweep every few days to keep it under control. This was not litter from my cat because I actually watched it rack and dump the litter on the ground. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.
