Rated 5 out of 5 by Brodis Awesome and easy!!!
Literally just got done changing my tank over from white gravel to black gravel and black substrate. Didn't go crazy rinsing the stuff, maybe rinsed a total of 15 minutes. The water was clearing up before I even plugged the filter back in. Looks good, easy to use. Buy this stuff!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by stevenht4105 I switched from gravel to this stuff on half my 15g tank today and started planting my green crypto's.
This stuff is awesome. It really cloudy at first even though I washed it off for a while. After about 30 minutes and planting stuff, the water was actually getting clearer. It's been about 2 hours now and the water is almost completely clear.
I kept my fish in while I changed out the substrates. As soon as I put this stuff in all my fish gravitated towards it. I had live plants before but it looked blah with regular gravel.
I'm going to wait until my next water change to finish the other half and I can't wait.

Rated 5 out of 5 by problemcat Did not cloud water
After reading the reviews, I decided to use this substrate beneath natural pebbles gravel in my 30-gallon aquarium, which I intend to be a planted tank. I was a little hesitant because a few folks said it clouded their water, but most of the reviews said this wasn't an issue, so I decided to give it a try.
What I did:
I used one bag of the black Flora Max. I spent an hour washing it. It's extremely dusty and gritty, and that dust and grit is black. Even after an hour of constant rinsing, there was still tons of fine gritty particles, so I was really concerned about adding it. But, you have to stop rinsing sometime, so I went ahead and added it carefully to the bottom of my empty tank. I say carefully because this stuff WILL scratch glass if you rub it against the glass. It is extremely coarse, gritty, and sharp. Let's just say my hands got the exfoliation of a lifetime.
One bag was sufficient to cover the bottom of my 36" x 12" aquarium (it's a long 30 gallon, so those measurements are the footprint) approximately 1/2" - 3/4" deep. That was perfect for what I wanted.
Next, I washed and added one 20lb bag of aquarium gravel. If you want to know which one I used, see my other reviews.
After getting that scaped to my satisfaction, I placed a large dinner plate on top of the gravel. Then I used my garden hose (NO nozzle/attachment that adds force), keeping the flow of the water directed on the plate. This diffused the force of the water, allowing it to flow gently over the plate and fill the tank without disturbing the substrate. I got NO cloudiness. I didn't even have to use the BioMagnet Clarifier.
I can't speak to what will happen if you use Flora Max as your only substrate, but with the gravel on top and using a plate to diffuse the flow of the water, I had no problems with cloudiness filling my tank.
If Petsmart will allow me to edit reviews, I will update on how it does when I add plants.

We bought the flora max red, to help our plants flourish and have the roots kept under the substrate. Every now and then my plants would just be floating on top of the tank before we dI'd this. Setting up the new tank we just bought with the flora max and substrate was easy, just adding water took too long. The water cleared up really well with the clarifyer that was in the bag of flora max. We did rinse the flora max a couple of time first then added it to the tank, put the clean substrate on top and filled it up. It only took under an hour for the water to be crystal clear.
