I bought the IF40 for a 27 gallon aquarium. It worked great in the beginning. I had a clear tank for a couple weeks. Then it started loosing effectiveness. The flow of water coming out dropped. I have to take it apart and clean it weekly, and my water stays cloudy. I have all of 5 fish in the tank. The suction cups keep getting a white crud on them that comes off when I remove the filter for cleaning, leaving white chunks floating in the water. It is a big, bulky filter that just takes up room and circulates water (when it is cleaned and for a couple days after). I am not at all impressed and I am planning to buy a small canister filter and save myself the tank space and troubles of removing a filter every week to clean it.

I have had my 55 gallon tank for over 36 years. In all that time I have never had a filter work as well as this one. In moving to a new house my existing filter was broken. I purchased this one, installed it and within a few hours my water was crystal clear and has remained so. I highly recoomend this!

I just bought this filter two days ago for my 40 gallon, gold fish tank, and it works awesome. After about a month of not having a filter, I plunged this baby into the murky stank water and in only a couple of hours it was crystal clear again. Seriously, it was actually really impressive.
I was skeptical when I bought this product because of Natgeo's title on it. I figured they were just throwing their brand name on some poorly made filter, but I certainly am pleasantly surprised. The guy at the store said I was the first one to buy one.
It also has some killer horse power under the hood, the (adjustable) water pressure on this thing at full blast is enough to make you wanna buckle in your seat belt (bad example, but you get the point.) The concept of how it is constructed eliminates gross open aired filters and scummy pipes.
