I own one goldfish and six zebra danios. Goldfish are very messy fish and this filter has done its job fairly well. You do have to use a siphon pump to change out the water, but it sounds to me like the cloudy water described by other reviews are the outcome of poor aquarium care. This filter may need to be cleaned out every four or so months, but works very well overall.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Ninji Just plain cheap
This filtre came with the Grreat Value aquarium I have, and it just doesn't do the job. Water naturally evaporates, and since the part where water goes in is at the top, sometimes it doesn't go in at all. The cartridge itself is really cheap as well. Cilantro's water is cloudy, even with regular water changes.
It's quiet at least, so that's fine? Don't get me started on the suction cups though, they're next to useless.

It worked well for about a month and then I started having problems with it not functioning like it used to. So i replaced the cartridge, took it apart and cleaned every part of it, then put it back together. It seems to be working great again. Along with weekly water changes, my water is really clear. One thing is that it does not agitate the water at all so you have to use it along with an air pump.
