Rated 4 out of 5 by KingHamlet Great Small Hamster Cage!
Before buying a small winter white hamster, I did a lot of research on cages. This cage is right at the minimum requirement, which is not ideal..but it is very difficult to find a larger cage that is suited for a small hamster. This is a great decent sized cage at a reasonable price!
There is plenty of room inside, I can fit in many toys, the bar spacing is ideal, it is much more breathable than an all plastic cage, it is durable, it has two small levels, a built in hide-away, and it comes with a food bowl that cannot be knocked over. My hamster enjoys the levels because he can make a private, covered burrow under the first level and he can create tunnels coming out. He loves this!!
Also the first level is short and there is no falling hazard, but the second level is quite high, so be sure to have plenty of bedding in that area.
My hamster likes the built in hide-away too, because it is a private place for him to eat and go potty.
Another plus is that the bottom part of the cage goes up quite high, so hamsters do not make a mess by getting any bedding out and I can put in a lot of bedding for my hamster to burrow and nest.
The cons are the water bottle and the included wheel. The water bottle leaks which is a problem with most and my hamster just did not understand the wheel that came in the cage.

This cage, and ANY OTHER PETSTORE CAGE IS TOO SMALL! The minimum is 360 sq inches! If your hamster is in here he will monkey bar and chew at the bars which are both signs of BORDEM!

So I had gotten the Nat Geo small exploration loft for my first hamster, and I think it's ten times better than this. Even though this cage is larger, once you put a larger wheel in there (because the wheel in the cage is complete junk) there is almost no more room for anything else. The glass water bottle, which I had high hopes for, leaked everywhere the first night I got the cage. I had to situate it in a completely different place in the cage. Finally, I thought the bar sizing's were great until I realized the bar spacing of my cage, on one side, was about 3/4 of an inch (which is pretty big, since normally they are 1/2 inch or less) and my hamster discovered that bar spacing, and now won't leave it alone. Otherwise the cage is okay. The plastic levels are well made, along with the nice bowl. The wood bridges really don't fit in with the theme but work anyway. I would probably not buy again.

The unique peanut-dome design is quite visually appealing. Comes with an adorable bridge which I would use in a different habitat. Nice levels. But size, really!?
This cage is marketed towards Syrians, Gerbils, Dwarfs, and other small furry friends but it doesn't meet the USA minimum standard. It isn't 360 in (squared)!!!!!
I would expect so much better from such a great company like NatGeo. I mean I love their small animal chews and toys. However, not their cages. The only reason I would ever buy a cage like this is for TRAVELING. It is the perfect travel cage without the wheel, because the wheel is far too small for SYrians and could pose potential back problems. Definantely a great travel cage, five stars for that. But when marketed as a permanent home for your furry friend, sadly a one star!
