I've had this aquarium for about 3 months now. Pretty plain tank. The lid and leds are so cheap. The filter is an eyesore because its sticks out on the back (not flushed with tank lid). It was also chipped from one corner when I bought it. I will probably upgrade to another tank.

by kaityb Filter Output Too Strong
Like others have said, the filter output on this tank is really strong. My Betta was in there for a day before I realized the output was too strong and it was pushing him around and having a hard time swimming to the top. I was able to craft a baffle out of an old water bottle to split the filter output and it has made such a huge difference. Keep in mind that the instructions for this filter say that there's a knob to change the flow... but there isn't.
Despite the filter issue, this tank is great. It has an AC powered LED light with an on/off switch. I like how the hood is flat and the feeding hole is just large enough to sprinkle the food in. I'm considering buying another tank for a second male betta.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Graciecakes Great Tank - Splashing from Filter Can Be Fixed
Overall Look: The black trim suits this glass aquarium very nicely. I also like the flat hood opposed to the usual raised ones. The LED strip may look small when you take it out of the packaging, but it illuminates the entire tank perfectly.
Extra Features: The kit contains a stick-on thermometer. You will want to place this away from your heater (I recommend getting one to accompany a Betta) to get an accurate reading. The fish net is another great feature you will use often. It also provides a water test vial: fill it with your tank water to take to Pet Smart for evaluation.
Power Filter: This starter kit ALSO includes a power filter from Top Fin. This filter usually fits a 10 gallon aquarium, while this one is only 5.5 gallons. This is sure to cause more bubbles/splashing/stirring in the tank than normal.
I fixed the splashing by filling the tank to the brim of the filter; the water immediately pours into the water instead of splashing in. This fix allowed for minimal bubbling and stirring as well. My Betta does not seem to mind, in fact, it is his favorite thing in the tank.
I only have one Betta in this aquarium. He has been living for 3 months inside a 1/2 gallon plastic tank. I researched for affordable tanks that also benefit the fish. Most options online are WAY too small for him to live comfortably. This was the best option price-wise and feature-wise. I added 5lbs of aquarium gravel to the bottom. And I plan on adding more decorations besides 3 little plastic plants I have already placed.
Suggestions: The only other thing I suggest (for keeping a Betta in this tank) is a heater. They want 78 to 80 degree water. The general rule for bettas is about 5W per gallon. I purchased a 20W heater from Top Fin, but Pet Smart also carries a 25W heater from National Geographic.

I bought this tank and currently have three mollies in it. It is a small tank so I wouldn't suggest more fish than that, but they are perfectly healthy and happy.
The filter works fine. It not super strong, which is okay for the small tank, and does make noise. It sounds like a small water fall or fountain. I find it soothing personally. Originally I had a fairly large plant positioned where the water pours in from the filter that muted the sound pretty well.
The lid and LEDs are great. The light is nice and bright which encourages my fish to get active and swim around a lot. I don't really trust the thermometer so I bought a second one just to be safe.
If you're looking for a good starter I would get this tank. It's great for the cost!
