National Geographic™ Aqua Oasis Starter Kit
Light stopped working
I have had the 15.8 gallon aquarium for a little over a month. About every 9 days the filter starts chugging and has to be cleaned. I bought a new filter and installed it on the back. A few days ago the lights started being fussy. They turned off and on on their own. Now today they don't work at all. I am not excited about having to return it and transfer everything to a new tank.

No Replacement Parts!
I thought this fish tank would be a great deal for the price we paid, given the National Geographic brand name attached to it. It is a very beautiful tank, and all my fish are happy. But, unfortunately, they were left in the dark when the LED lights started funking out. They would turn on and off on their own, and not stay on when I wanted them to. I called both Petsmart and National Geographic to see what I could do to fix the problem, and NO ONE could help me because I was outside of the sixty day replacement period (it had been 76 days). I couldn't even get replacement parts for the tank because of it's unusual shape and dimensions. So the ONLY options we had were to either saw up our hood and place a different lighting unit on top, or to buy a new tank. This tank is beautiful... but don't waste your time or money.

Please Be Aware
We bought this aquarium (the 15.8 gal) just about three months ago. Everything started out fine for about a week. The included filter is woefully inadequate for the size of the aquarium. Ours was loud, almost creates a whirlpool in the aquarium and since it is a submersible filter, required constant adjustment to get it actually filter water.
After a couple weeks, we returned the filter, convinced we had a bad one. The Petsmart employee wasn't convinced the filter wasn't working correctly and actually switched us to an over the tank filter that continues to work perfectly to this day.
The tank was running smoothly until a couple of weeks ago when the white LED lights decided to quit working. The switch on the lid (really cool touch sensor) no longer works. The blue, night light works fine but the white light only comes on intermittently and whenever it feels like.
I called the customer service line in the manual and you are directed to Petsmart. There is no warranty information for this product nor can you get any support from the manufacturer. If this product breaks after 60 days, which, if you read the other reviews, is likely, you will be stuck with a broken product. Save the time and money and buy a different aquarium.
I really wanted this to work because the actual aquarium portion is beautiful and is visually appealing when the fish are happily swimming around. Unfortunately, the quality of the electronic components and utter lack of support sink this product.

Terrible filter; poor design
I have a pond with 40 fish that survived 2 winters; 2 large indoor aquariums (Marineland) with no problems and setting up this aquarium to raise Japanese Trapdoor snails has been a nightmare. The filter warms the water and had to be cleaned every single day while the planted aquarium cycled. Used current aquarium water so I knew it was healthy. Added oxygen pump as included filter is inadequate with air inlet tube attached. This design was a disaster. Don't waste your money.
