Fluval View Aquarium
Best aquarium for small spaces
I like most who wrote a reveiw, was compelled to write one after being super happy with my purchase of the Fluval View. Its perfect for a desk or counter top. Ours sit our kitchen counter. My children house a betta, african dwarf frog and a few live plants with a 3 layers of substrate Flora Max, black gravel, small river stones in this 4 gallon tank. I added a faux tree trunk decoration both functional for them to "hide" and asthetically pleasing. our frog and fish are very happy swimming around this spacious well lit tank and the slow flow, water fall filter is very zen . Just one tiny flaw. Wish the light stayed on when cover is removed, since the led lights are still attached to the base. Still a great purchase, reccomend getting especially at the current clearance price.

Wonderful Betta Aquarium!
I don't take the time to rate many products, but I had to take the time to review this one. First let me say that this tank is so very attractive to look at, set up is so simple, and the gentle flow of the water down the back wall of the aquarium does not bother my Betta at all. I tried a couple of tanks before this one and had to return them all because of different issues mainly with filter being way to strong for a betta and even some other fish. My betta is so happy in his new home, he never stops swimming or building bubble nests, also there is plenty of room in the filter compartment for a heater! I found the filters on line for 2.17 for a 4pack,Petsmart as of this writing did not have them. The lights are great and allows me to put a couple of live plants in tank. Over all I am very pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend and one more thing the filter is wisper quiet I check sometimes to make sure it is running and that is another plus regarding this aquarium. If you are looking for attractive, easy, quiet, then I highly recommend this product, your Betta or what ever you may have will be very happy in there new home!! Thanks Fluval and Petsmart

Great for baby fancy goldfish
This slim 4 gallon tank brings so much positive chi for my room. It is an oval shape so short and small fish are ideal. The filter is quiet and gives a nice waterfall effect which is calming depending on how much water you fill it with. I left about 3 inches from the top so that when the water drops back down the water has oxidation. My fantail Hikari loves it for now until she grows.

Sharp desktop tank
I purchased this tank to replace a Fluval Chi tank that developed a crack in the glass. The Chi was an okay tank, but the View is much better!
The tank is made of plastic and is oval in shape. There is some slight distortion at each end due to the curve of the plastic, but it distorts what is behind the tank, not in it. The filter mechanism is hidden within a removable "tower" in the back and pulls water from the bottom of the tank and filters it through two filter cartridges before pouring it back in via two return areas at the top of the tank. The filter is whisper quiet and the water returns to the tank slowly - no annoying splashing. There is little to no current produced, perfect for bettas or African dwarf frogs, but not for fish requiring a lot of surface movement. There is room in the filter tower for a small heater. The owner's manual shows a photo of what looks like a heater designed for this tank, but when I emailed Hagen I was told to simply use the smallest Fluval heater.
The top of the tank houses the LED light array and forms a cover for the majority of the tank with just a small opening in the center for feeding. The switch for the LED lights is in the top portion. The switch has three positions - white LEDs (day), OFF, and one blue LED (night). The positioning of the lights causes a bit of a shadow at the back top part of the tank, but the tank is otherwise quite bright. The top fits around the entire perimeter of the tank - there is no opening to run cords for extra lights, etc.
I have a java fern and a marimo ball in the tank, but you would not be able to grow high-light requiring plants in this tank and retrofitting the lighting would not really be possible.
For me, this is a great replacement for my Fluval Chi. I live in the desert, and the Chi lost too much water to evaporation. I only have to add water to the View once a week or so when I clean it.
This tank is not suitable for an enthusiast wanting to grow high-light requiring plants or support a nano-reef, but for the average person who wants a pretty, easy to maintain tank for a few fish on a desk or kitchen counter, the View is a winner.
- Interesting shape and pretty design on back and lid of tank
- Easy to change filter cartridges
- Lid/cover helps prevent evaporation
- Plastic tank can scratch if not cleaned carefully
- Decorative design cannot be changed out (but I like it)
- I could not find specific View filter cartridges at Petsmart, but the Fluval U-2 cartridges will fit in a pinch (I verified this with the help of a manager)
- Low surface agitation of water, good for bettas but maybe not for some fish
- No way to run cords for extra lighting or air stones into the tank due to lid configuration.
