If you do not mind spending the amount, which isn't huge, this is not a horrible item to purchase once a year. However, the plastic will begin to break, easily, during the winter months, cable will fray, and will eventually give and you will find your dog sitting at your doorstep with the broken cable still clipped to collar.

i'm on my second purchase of this item. they seem to last exactly one year for me, always breaking right after winter ends. the plastic starts to crack and the metal underneath will rust, and just snap apart. during winter months, the metal clasp freezes shut and i have to blow on it to unthaw it. product works good if it is intact, just be sure to keep an eye on when it starts to wear out and replace it soon, or you might have your dog on the loose. like other reviews, my dog is WELL below the maximum for the weight and hardly pulls on it. i just ordered a Four Paws heavyweight tie out cable (on amazon) that says it will not rust so we will see how that works out.

This tie out is a waste of money. We previously were using a nylon lead as a tie out for our very well behaved 70 lbs great Pyrenees mutt. We bought the 100lb tie out as an upgrade as we thought it looked sturdier and safer. We live in central new york where winters are fairly cold- the clasp on this lead had to be warmed up before every use as it easily froze but the bigger is that without warning the plastic AND metal wire failed miserably.... It just broke in half. I'm very upset with the quality of the product as it wasn't even a year old.

I had bought three of these less than a year ago. Both of my dogs are under 75 lbs. All three of them have broken. The plastic coating cracks and shows the metal underneath then causing the metal to corrode and snap.
