Top Paw Large Breed Tie-Out
last one year
i'm on my second purchase of this item. they seem to last exactly one year for me, always breaking right after winter ends. the plastic starts to crack and the metal underneath will rust, and just snap apart. during winter months, the metal clasp freezes shut and i have to blow on it to unthaw it. product works good if it is intact, just be sure to keep an eye on when it starts to wear out and replace it soon, or you might have your dog on the loose. like other reviews, my dog is WELL below the maximum for the weight and hardly pulls on it. i just ordered a Four Paws heavyweight tie out cable (on amazon) that says it will not rust so we will see how that works out.

PIECE OF JUNK
This tie out is a waste of money. We previously were using a nylon lead as a tie out for our very well behaved 70 lbs great Pyrenees mutt. We bought the 100lb tie out as an upgrade as we thought it looked sturdier and safer. We live in central new york where winters are fairly cold- the clasp on this lead had to be warmed up before every use as it easily froze but the bigger is that without warning the plastic AND metal wire failed miserably.... It just broke in half. I'm very upset with the quality of the product as it wasn't even a year old.

Does not last
I had bought three of these less than a year ago. Both of my dogs are under 75 lbs. All three of them have broken. The plastic coating cracks and shows the metal underneath then causing the metal to corrode and snap.

A VERY POOR product...
Bought 3 sets of XL (250 pound capacity) tie-outs for our dogs about a month ago. Although, none of our dogs are near 100 pounds, we thought it was better to be safe than sorry and purchase the most heavy duty product.
Living in Ottawa and having an unexpected cold snap in early December, they worked great for the first week and then the problems started. Right away the plastic started cracking opening and exposing the metal sheathing underneath and putting the dogs at potential risk of cutting themselves etc. and now am finding that the clasps are now loose and opening by themselves (the dogs have run away several times causing grief). Not to mention the fact that they are now wrapping around and making a huge tied up mess.
How Top Paw can put out a product like this with so little quality assurance is a huge problem. Pet Smart is also at fault for only offering this one product in the tie-out category within their stores.
I definitely recommend NOT purchasing this product.
