Our dog is a large labradoodle- about 80 pounds. While our own feet seem to set off alarm and create a shock- when she walks over it, nothing happens. Maybe her hair on her feet doesn't conduct charge, I don't know.

I don't normally do reviews but I want to help others to not make the same mistake as I did. The concept of this product is brilliant. We have a very small pug (14lbs) and a normal sized (7lbs) chihuahua, and they aren't large enough to touch 2 of the cooper threads at the same time to conduct the static shock. We tried it before we allowed them to get near it. Even our children got in on the action. The shock wasn't any more than what you get when you rub your feet on the carpet. I must admit we had fun shocking each other, but when we left it alone the dogs walked right over it with no shock! Maybe for a larger breed or if we were trying to keep them from lying somewhere it could work, but just to keep them from crossing a threshold...not at all. I do love that we were able to try it without any risk. PetSmart took it back with the receipt and gave us a cash refund with no problems.
