Rated 5 out of 5 by TorieK I love this litter!
Ok, I had to buy this litter because my cat had to have a surgery on his...ahem...parts.... And the vet recommend this so he wouldn't get the clay litter stuck to the surgery site. It does smell a little, but when your cat pees on it, it's wet, compressed paper... It's gonna smell!! Lol. Anyway, it absorbs the urine very well and I have continued to use the rest of the bag as a bottom layer to his clay litter to help soak up all the urine. I feel like I don't have to scoop as much because all the clay litter isn't stuck together at the bottom of the box and I actually smell LESS of his functions then I do with either alone.
I will admit, it's hard to tell if your kitty has peed in the box because the litter is so dark AND I had to keep checking between kitty toes for pellets because he would ALWAYS come out with at least one between his toes, but over all this litter is amazing!!!
And like I said, if used as a bottom layer to a clay litter, it will save you a lot of time AND it will save your nose.

Rated 1 out of 5 by msmw I despise this stuff. I have to use it for two weeks due to my kitten's surgery, and I will be SO happy when I can go back to regular litter. This stuff STINKS when used, and this is in despite of cleaning it regularly. I think somewhere I read where someone said it smells like a pulp factory when wet. I don't know what a pulp factory smells like, but this stuff really does stink when it's wet.
Also, it's very wasteful. You will go through more of this litter than a clumping litter. You're supposed to scoop out the pellets that have absorbed the urine. Well, that's kind of hard to do because you WILL inevitably scoop out "unused" pellets. It's been less than a week and I've already had to change out the litter pan due to both the smell and fast use of the litter. And I only have one cat.
Also, my kitten likes to pick the pellets out and bat them around AND chew on them. This is despite all of the other toys he has. Like I said, I CANNOT wait to go back to regular litter.
I don't recommend this stuff one bit. It's wasteful, it stinks, and my kitten plays with it and chews it up.

by Tigger4 Good for indoor and outdoor cats
My 4 (indoor) cats seem to like it, and so do my 17 outdoor cats. I bought Yesterday's News litter because I got tired of scooping in the dust. I was not patient enough to transition my cats into the new litter (or food). Luckily for me, I have happy-go-lucky bunch of cats. Did not notice any issues changing litter type. The odor only comes with the stool. I put only a little bit in the box then fill more as needed. As for tracking issue, I bought 'top-entry' litter boxes. (My boy cat loves to spray all over the walls so I also use plastic liners.) Yet, my cats manage to get some pellets on the floor. Since the pellets are big, I can easily see and pick up. Now, if only my oldest girl cat will stop shredding the plastic liner with her sharp claws...sigh...
I also have about 17 outdoor cats who live in the shed and contained-fence. I need to use litter box for them. In the freezing winter like right now, it's easier for me to manage because I dump the litter box everyday instead of scooping. There, I definitely notice the odor.

by QueenB1958 Awesome litter
I absolutely love this little for both cats and rats. It's great for odor control which is nice since my cats litter box is in the only bathroom in my house and since the pieces are bigger (it's more like pellets) it doesn't track which is a big bonus. I also love that it's not dusty so I can use it in my rats cage. It's not as soft as the aspen I was using for them, but it is SOOOO much better with the smell. I just love this product and I love that can buy one thing and use it for more than one pet. This is a must for any cat OR rat owner
