I have two 17 year old Maine Coons. These are large cats with active kidneys. I've used pine pellet litter since they were kittens. A year ago, they began using the rugs near their boxes and I realized their little old paws had become too sensitive for the large pellets. Clumping litter was a nightmare since I was digging out cement-like lumps a quarter of the size of the litter box. I tried almost every possible type and the ExquisiCat cobble has been the best by far. No more accidents and no hesitation to use their box. Controls odor far better than paper litter, tracks far less than wheat and other finer grain litter and has no chemicals.

I bought a couple bags of this litter when the "non cobble" version of this litter was out-of-stock. My adult cat enjoyed heaping it up on one big pile as it was easier to move around than the regular-type pine litter normally used. It did a decent job with holding ammonia/urine odors at bay. The "output" required some "help" as the cat didn't get anything covered that well. (Cat is OCD about digging, but won't dig where it's "dirty.") Seemed to need more litter over time than the non-cobble version, too. I wouldn't stick with it for an adult cat (the regular pine is better) but I have new kittens on the way, and believe I'll introduce it to them. The smaller particles are likely to be easier on their paws. Then I can transition to the non-cobble version when they get older.

So happy we started using this litter. My boyfriend and I couldn't stand that perfume-y, chemical smell of the grey litter anymore (and I got upset when reading how bad the clumping litter is for cats)! I started with the pine pellets, but stuck with the cobble. It's so fresh smelling, and actually absorbs odors very well. It still smells fresh even after they go. It doesn't clump, but when it comes into contact with liquid it turns to powder so you can still easily tell what to scoop out, although I don't use a slotted scooper so I can pick up the powdery clumps. I will never ever go back to that toxic old litter again!

My cat was having eye problems from the dust in the cat litter we were using, so I had to find a differect type. This is my first pick because there is absolutely no dust or residue. It is super soft and doesn't leave those painful little holes in your foot if it gets on the carpet. It smells like (clean) barn/hamster, so you should probably like that smell because the room and your cat will smell a bit like that... but there is no dust or nasty chemical smell (love!) However, due to the naturalness of this "pine cobble" it does not clump. But I have seen how it absorbs and it hides the smell well. I have to change this litter about every 4 days instead of the 7 with the old litter. But I'll take that anyday for the price and a happy cat with clear beautiful eyes.
