I bought the medium sized carrier for my 15.8 lb cat at Pet Smart several years ago. It was on sale for less than $50 at the time, and was a great buy. While I have not used it on an airplane, we do use it for car travel for vet visits. The size seems comfortable for my over sized cat. He fits in the bottom with a little extra wiggle room. When traveling he prefers to stay curled up. Once we're home he stands up and gets ready to hop out. The only problem we have is that if he moves around in the carrier while it is in the upright position it may tip over if we are not holding the handle. The zippers are convenient so I can reach in and pet him. It has an attached leash that we have not used, but should be used for air travel. He does not claw at the netting so this has remained in good condition for several years. There are two zip pockets on each side that hold small items, a nice convenience. I have seen people on airplanes lugging a hand held carrier through the airports and they always complain about how difficult it is. This great carrier solves the problem. If your pet fits in the medium or small size I would not hesitate to recommend it for air travel. Get the right harness for your cat so he will be comfortable and be sure to hook it up to the small leash in the carrier if you plan extended train or air travel and you should not have any problems. Note that when on it's side you can slip in a little water bowl and some food. Good for long trips!

Bought two of these; one for my 12lb pug and one for my 12lb cat.
At first I thought the ability to go standing to laying down was cool...but this was only in theory.
We flew from Virginia to alaska and I could tell it was very uncomfortable for my cat. (The dog was sleeping the entire trip)
I did feel bad for my babies every time I had to tilt them in order to move and it was quite tricky getting them under the seat. (If you buy this, set the carrier flat on the ground in the aisle of the plane, then slide it to your seat and position underneath)
The reason I gave this a two is because halfway through our trip, my cat was able to break the attached leash, claw a huge hole in the vent, and crawl about the plane.
Save yourself and your babies the embarrassment and discomfort of this bag.

We have two small doxies and wanted something we could use in the truck and vet visits, etc. This carrier on wheels is doing the trick! Love it.

I have 3 cats. One is 12lbs the other two are 15lbs. The medium size is perfect for my 12lbs cat. 2-3 from the top when standing upright. Too snug for the 15lbs cats. The big cats will fit okay but if use for long trips I don't recommend the medium size. My large maine coon head hits the top when upright and fills from left to right. These are great carriers. Much easier on me to use for vet appts. Go with the large more roomy one if not sure. Airline travel another story. large would be too large. In that case would have to go with the medium. I would use a different carrier (non wheeled) regular carrier for my larger cats for travel.
