I've done a lot of research on the best hamster foods with the correct ratios and a lot of variety and this is my favorite so far. My hamster is picky about pellets and since this food has so much variety (check out the ingredients list) he eats all the pieces even some pellets, so this food is perfect for him and he loves it!! The food ratios are formulated by the ingredients in it so picking out the corn and peas completely changes the ratios for the worse. The corn and peas in hamster food are a different variety than what people eat and they are very high in protein and very low in sugar, they are healthy for your hamster and do not cause diabetes. There are a lot of misconceptions about diabetes in hamsters! Please do not pick those out, instead do some research.

My hamsters and gerbils like this food, but there's way too much corn and peas. Constantly picking them out is annoying since I have a hamster prone to diabetes. Also I think the price is slightly too high, maybe lower it down a dollar or something. I'll buy this food again, but the amount of corn and peas is ridiculous. 3 stars...

My hamster Pistachio LOVES Vitasmart! She chows it down the second it's in the cage. I know I'll be buying this more and more! I DO WANT TO POINT OUT THAT SHE IS DIABETIC AND I TAKE OUT THE CORN AND PEAS

This food is great with some alterations. The percentages are pretty good. I usually take out most of the corn and peas, then add oats, sunflower seeds, a small amount of peanuts, mealworms, dry pasta, and then feed that whole mix together with either Oxbow or Science Selective pellets, and Kaytee Forti Diet lab blocks for added protein. It's a great base food but it doesn't have enough variety to feed on its own. Overall it's the only commercial mix that I would recommend for hamsters.
