Santa brought this to our house for our 7 year old who has begged and begged for a hamster. The product is cheap plastic which can easily crack or break when trying to clean. Probably not a real problem though as you cannot get the pieces apart so there really is no way to clean. The wheel is very loud and you really cannot leave in a bedroom. Hamsters are nocturnal so removing the wheel at night is really not a solution and certainly not fair to the hamster. We will have to invest in a different habitat. My wife is a fanatic about keeping the home clean and there is no way you can do that for long with this cheap plastic unit.

The hamsters love this habitat, but it's extremely difficult to keep clean. Especially the wheel gets very nasty very fast. After trying to deal with the filth in the wheel and the lookout tower for 5 days, I bought a different habitat instead.

Purchased this cage for our daughter's new hamster this weekend. It is absolutely wonderful! Our daughter and Wesley (the hamster) have spent hours entertaining themselves. Easy assembly. Easy to clean. Yes, very noisy when Wesley takes food into wheel and begins his marathon run at night.
However, we solved that quickly. Taught daughter how to take the wheel off, remove and rotate the wheel craddle, place it back so it blocks the tube opening. Then place the wheel back on in the morning. BAM! Problem solved.
Wonderful product. We love it. Thanks PetSmart!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Jerf Don't buy this cage
This cage has serious design flaws. It's as if someone designed it and never actually tried keeping a hamster in it for any period of time. Don't buy it.
The bubbly plastic pieces that make this cage visually appealing also make the cage very, very difficult to clean. All the trail pieces are very hard to separate, held together by fragile, inflexible plastic interlocking tabs. The trails pieces must be split apart to be cleaned, especially the wheel. I've broken at least three of the plastic tabs struggling to split the piece. When all the tabs are broken that piece will be near useless.
The wheel is really horrible. Hamsters, as you know, go to bathroom everywhere, so at night when our hamster runs through the wheel we hear what amounts to a rain-stick as all his waste bounces around inside. Ventilation holes around the wheel allow waste to fly out and scatter all around the cage.
The connection between the entry trail and the wheel is also very poorly designed: the pieces rub against one another as the hamster runs resulting in a fine dust - ground plastic - all over the top of the cage.
This was the most visually appealing cage in the store but it has to be the worst, functionally. Buy something more functional and easy to clean. Your hamster won't care what color it's cage it.
