I have had rats periodically over the last fifteen years and had several different cages for them. I am very impressed with the construction and quality of this cage. Everything about it is an improvement on any other cage I've had, from the doors that latch securely but require little effort to open, to the plastic shelves that clean up neatly with two swipes of a wet wipe. It is of sturdy design that stays together without hassle and comes apart easily when needed, the deep tray at the bottom keeps the bedding mess contained, and the plastic shelves prevent the urine drips that plagued the bars of all my mesh-shelved cages. My two rats and I are very, very pleased.

Rated 3 out of 5 by CedarW Good except for the accessories
The cage overall is great but on the box it shows a big sack of shavings and a big sack of food. When you open it, it's only enough shavings for half of the bottom and the food is junk, don't let your rats eat it. Get Oxbow instead and get Carefresh bedding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GigiandValentinoTheRat Great for beginners! Aka Me
I read the reviews before i bought this. Truth IS : If you have enough chew toys and imagination to change up your rat's home and keep him interested, he wont chew on the plastic. I have ONE Rat and if I had the minimal in there, he is definitely going to be bored.
So if you are a great pet owner, your rat should not be chewing through the plastic. Plus plastic doesn't hold onto bacteria like wood does. This cage is easy to clean , assemble , disassemble, and i even added a smaller cage on top with zip ties where he sleeps.
I only wish there was a door on the side or in back because my arms are too short and its hard to reach in back to spot clean the bars on the cage.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Maggseroni It really depends...
I got this cage, and it really just depends on your rats, it's good size, but it's plastic at the bottom, if you put it on a table or dresser, etc, then your rats will be safe, rats love this cage, it's just that it might get chewed through, get a bedding, like fleece so that it covers up the bottom and so they won't chew. I am a rat breeder.
