I brought this product a few years back when I had a family of rescue dog's, I thought the puppies could use a good play, so this was it and it was wonderful, still is, and now I use it to help with dog's in the middle of rehabilitation from bad pasts. It's a great item, and super cute when they figure it out, I love watching them play with this item, and it never seems to get old for them, probably because know they their is a small prize inside.

So I thought my border collie would love a puzzle box. I thought by starting out somewhat simple it would be easy for him to catch on and figure out and play with. First of all, this thing is loud. Maybe it's because of how my dog was using it, but it was just loud. We have hardwood floors too so it wouldn't stay in one place for him. Even on a rug it wouldn't either. Second, maybe my dog is TOO smart for this. He didn't use it as it is intended to be used. He simply picked the whole thing up, turned it on its side so all the flaps opened and dumped out all his treats. While it's hilarious, it's not how this thing is supposed to work, but I guess he did figure out how to get all the treats out (which is the purpose? Kind of?). He figured out how to get one flap up, then that gave him a place to grab hold of to flip it over. Only my dog. In theory it's a good toy, but it didn't work for us, so it's just sitting in the corner now.

I have 3 dogs, each treats this differently. One is logical, and learned how to do it in one try. Another is go for it all and jump right in - he also figured it out immediately. My other one, poor thing, no matter what I do, she just doesn't get it....she's not the brightest one.... I've showed her how to lift the door, spin it to find more treats, encouraged her, and spent lots of time, and she just won't do it.
The other 2 still have fun with it when I fill it for them, but they clean it out in about 1 or 2 minutes so I only fill it occasionally so they don't get bored with it. It would be nice to have a challenge setting so once they understand it you can make it a bit harder.
