Rated 3 out of 5 by CHoffman does a good job but needs a lot of care
I have had the 20gallon for 4 years now. It has always kept my tank clean and was silent. Over the past 1-2 years I noticed the filter was losing power but still doing a good job, I thought it was just starting to get old. I came back from my vacation and I discovered 3 dead angel fish and my Corey cat fish. The filters flow at the base had been clogged, you can't clean there though because of the design, after digging into it for a half hour with a pipe stem cleaner, it worked again back to its original power, but just like my downstairs top fin. After its first full cleaning, it becomes super noisy. I'm writing this review at 5:30 because it woke me up early from its loud zztzztzztzzt.

Rated 4 out of 5 by DaYodish Topfin Power Filter 20
I bought the 20 gallon Topfin aquarium kit. I could not get the Topfin Power Filter to work. It would not suck water. I followed the package instructions and troubleshooting. I thought it to was defective so I returned it to Petsmart and got the same filter off the shelf. They replaced it at no charge. Got it home and had the EXACT same problem.
Finally, I searched the forums and saw where someone said that the intake tube must be pressed down HARD to snap into the little grooves, not just rested in the grooves. They were not kidding! I really had to press hard to get it to snap into place. However, as soon as it was locked in, it started working perfectly and quietly! HOORAY!! :D

Rated 1 out of 5 by NicoleMarie Broke within hours of use.
I purchased the 55 gallon tank set up which was an awesome deal, considering it came with everything. I set the tank up earlier today and within 6 hours the filter randomly shut off and I haven't been able to get it back on since! I'm very disappointed in this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Fish1025 Filters water nicely, VERY loud
I first received this filter in the Top Fin starter kit. It was quite a hassle to put together and took several tries. Once I finally got it together I plugged it in and no avail. The filter did not work even though I followed all of the instructions. I finally got it to work by filling the inside of the filter (which you're supposed to do) and jiggling the extension tube. It finally started to suck up the water and it made an atrocious noise. The filter sounded like it was grinding rocks. I did notice that the water was very clear and the filter was working nicely, it was just so loud that I could hear it from all parts of my house. The noise was so bad that I went back to Petsmart and the worker let me exchange it for the quiet flow by Aqueon. If you're looking for a quiet efficient filter this is not the kind for you. If you're looking for an efficient filter that does its job then this is the one for you.
