Rated 3 out of 5 by Chemist I was really looking forward to an easier way to take care of litter for 3 cats. Initially, the system worked great. But one week I forgot to change the tray in time, and the urine seeped through the cardboard bottom and fermentated under the tray on the floor. I woke up to the most terrible smell ever. The liquid seeped onto the remaining trays stored near the litter box. It would be nice if the outside of the bottom of the tray was lined with plastic to prevent this happening. I plan to go back to the old litter box once the refills are used up.

After reading mixed reviews from various places, I was concerned about whether this unit would work. I have a small Tonkinese cat (<7 pounds). At first, she wasn't too keen on this box. I had to remove her old litter box before she would use this one. She now seems to enjoy the clean litter and watches the rake working. It's been 2+ weeks and no odor. I would give it 5 stars, but waiting to see how it holds up.
The unit is in our bedroom, and I have NEVER smelled anything - even right after use. My other enclosed litter box (I converted toy chest and added a cat door), I could smell poo. No odor at all with this one - not even up close! She poos a good bit-so I don't know how long the cartridge will last.
No issues with poo sticking to rake and urine seems to absorb pretty quickly. I put down a plastic carpet runner underneath just in case of leaks, but have not noticed any evidence. Hopeful that it continues to be this great.
Wondering if anyone knows about how many visits until time to change? I added a date on the litter, but it's hard to see the date to check timing. I guess when it does start to smell is when it's time to change.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Nimitz Don't do it.
This is the worst waste of money I can imagine. I still can't believe I skipped all of the terrible reviews, hoping to make the task of caring for two cats a little easier. This thing doesn't last nearly the two weeks advertised for two felines before stinking worse than the devil's bum. It stinks up my whole apartment after only 5 days. The litter tray refills are extremely expensive, costing about twice as much as conventional litter. And cleaning it out is so, so much worse. My eyes are still watering from the ammonia. To make matters worse, I now have to find a packing box big enough to fit this monstrosity, locate my original receipt, pack the darn thing up and take it to the post office to return to the company- subjecting some poor postal worker to the stench of hades to try to get my money back. Huge waste of money. Huge waste of time. Have fun cleaning the dried kitty business off the rake.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CatLadyKC YOU NEED THIS PRODUCT
We have had as many as three cats at one time to one cat. Currently we have two cats in our household. We have been fresh step users since our very first kitty. The only problems we experienced with regular litter was the dust it causes and my husband thinking one clean out every few days was ok but our house hit you like a brick wall when you came in of SMELLY LITTER. I was mortified to have people to our house or our downstairs. Even with constant vacuuming and dusting I even was a constant renter or the rug doctor. The biggest problem is as a busy housewife and business owner I had no time to make sure the litter was clean and my husband did not always remember to clean it out. Then we found out that one of our cats has asthma so I started researching litter boxes. This product solved ALL our issues. The litter is automatically cleaned and has no dust. The clean up is a breeze the litter is completely changed by just taking the bottom off and covering with the box top and toss it. The house smells like a home again and hubby can have friends to his man cave again. I would recommend this product to anyone.
