I was worried that the National Geographic name was just being put on a bad heater, but in all it has been working fantastically in my 60 gallon heater

My previous 300W heater was a malfunctioning competitor brand that could never get the water to the set temp of 82 during the winter, and would turn off without reaching 78 degrees. It finally stopped heating the tank at all, and the temp quickly dropped to 66.
In researching the various brands that sell 300W heaters, most are cheaper than this Nat'l Geo product, but not effective for tanks >100 gallons. This new heater is rated for tanks up to 250 gallons. However keep in mind it is 23" long, the longest available, so you must have a minimum 24" tank, or place the heater horizontal in the water. For me, it fits perfectly in the left corner, one inch from the gravel. I placed it next to the filter inflow so the heated water circulates well throughout the tank.
It came out of the box preset to 79 degrees, and I have not tried to change it so I don't know if the dial is hard to turn, as some other reviews mention. But it got my 135 gallons of water from 66 to 79 degrees in two days. The fish are much more happy and active now, and even the fire eel comes out from his rock to eat. I'm very satisfied with this heater and give it five stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Finchester The glass broke, but it worked great!
I bought this and it worked great for the five days I had it. The notch is a bit hard to turn without taking the whole thing out of the water. It kept the water at a constant temperature and my betta fish was happy.
Unfortunately it broke, and that was probably my fault. I can't give this item a bad rating because if I wasn't being dumb, the heater would still be working.

I purchased the 100W heater for use in my 20 gallon high. It is quite large, taking up most of the vertical space in my tank and, honestly, I think I could have gotten away with a 50W heater. Initially, the temperature gauge was way off, but once I got it calibrated, it worked perfectly. Overall, I'm very pleased with this product.
