Rated 5 out of 5 by FamilyLove1 Great filter! UNBEATABLE PRICE!!
Ok, first I'd like to address the comments on it being "very loud". With this filter YOU MUST FILL THE BACK WITH WATER BEFORE YOU TURN IT ON! If you don't it will make a very loud grinding noise. I know because I turned it on without filling it up turned it immediately off and looked at the instructions. I felt really smart... After I filled the back and restarted it its soooooo quiet!
You can adjust the flow rate! The 30g one has multistage filter and media which I great for keeping the beneficial bacteria when you have to change the cartridges!
I got mine for a steal!!! Petsmart was having a big big sale on these and I got 2 30g size filters for less than $20. It was an excellent buy for us!
Very happy with my purchase!

Rated 4 out of 5 by UTGrad Great Design but Initial Issue
This is a perfect filter for my 5 gallon tank cause it has an excellent design and flow control. The problem is right out of the box and set up it was crazy loud. I disassembled it and added silicone grease to the impeller shaft and it immediately fixed the problem. I would venture to say the other reviewers complaining of the filter being loud had the same problem as I had. Add silicone grease to the impeller shaft if the filter is loud! Otherwise great design and flow control for a betta and very nice filter media.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jay93 A near silent, but powerful filter
This is by no means as some other reviews are saying a "new and unreviewed filter", just one look in the box and even at your receipt let's you know National Geographic is just putting it's name on Eheim's filters. And it's about time that one of the most trusted names in aquatic filtration got an updated look and a more readily distributed line. This filter is fantastic, it's near silent and it comes with an array of options to use as inserts which I love since I prefer using only biological and mechanical filtration over carbon.
Anyone complaining about noise obviously has a defective model and should have returned it to the store. Sometimes I think it's broken it's so silent and I have to check it's still working! It has a nice variation in it's output, from a trickle to a quick stream, so it's perfect for anything even turbulent sensitive swimmers like betta. It's intake is also very easy to cover with a sponge and it's a very out of the way filter.
My only complaint is that it can be a bit loud if not properly primed when you start it up so be sure to fill it before plugging it in. All around though this is an affordable, high quality filter that I recommend to everyone and anyone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by jalvini Very Noisy Due To Defective Motor
the motor comes out of line very easily leaving the filter very noisy. I had to lube it up with Vaseline 2x today alone, if not it starts humming very loud. For the people who are not experiencing this, trust me you WILL. For those who ARE having this problem either return the filter or get the Vaseline out and start lubing the motor piece inside
