Was noisy from the beginning and it not only did it not keep the water clean, it became just plain filthy. I did several water changes, rinsed and used new filters, finally resorting to using chemicals and I could never get the water clean. After 2 months it just stopped. Replaced it with a Fluval and in less than 24 hours, the water is clear and my fish are happy.

This filter is too loud. I have a tank in my office and every time I walk in here I want to scream. Not only is it too loud, it doesn't keep the water crystal clear. Whenever I have a conference call I have to unplug the filter so I can hear my co-workers. I guess you get what you pay for. I wonder if I can take it back?

Rated 1 out of 5 by Sinc Very noisy - get the QuietFlow 30 instead
Quite disappointed in this "QuietFlow" unit. It's extremely noisy, whereas the QuietFlow 30 by the same company is virtually silent.
I suspect this is because the shell of the QuietFlow 30 and 50 are the same, and Aqueon just put a more powerful motor in the QuietFlow 50 without adjusting any other part of the unit, leading to a lot of noise and vibration.
Get the QuietFlow 30 instead. If you have a large tank, get two QuietFlow 30s. (This also helps your tank stay stable in case one unit fails).

Been in the tropical fish hobby for over 40 years and I can't find anything good to say about this filter. It's much louder than my Marineland Bio Filter and mechanically it's one of the worse designs I've ever seen. It unsuccessfully tries to dampen its motor sounds by immersing the pump housing underwater, in essence making the fish having to deal with it. The pickup tube isn't secure in place and easily separates in the tank and the entire motor and impeller assembly is entirely "mickey mouse".
