Buenos Aires Tetra
I love these guys. I have 5 adults and 3 fry (will explain further down) that school together with 5 Red-Blue Tetras.
I've also read that the species has a tendency to be aggressive, but I have yet to see it. They can be lively, and be careful at feeding times because they can jump out if they're too excited, but I haven't seen any aggression.
They are much prettier fish that the picture here shows or than what you will see in the store. Once they are settled, happy and have had a few good meals they will brighten up considerably. Their bodies are mainly a shimmering silver (imaging the look of a new quarter at the bottom of a pool), the strip down their sides is a deep, opaque black and ends with a spot or an almost-diamond shape on their tails. Their finds are a nice, bright, nearly opaque red. They are really something.
Now here's the biggest problem with them (that I've had, anyway): they tend to be pretty easy to breed. Not a problem if you're set up to breed them and care for the fry. It can be bad news if you have a typical tank that can't handle more than a couple additions.
So, what I've learned is if you don't want them to breed, 1) don't put them in the way of direct sunlight. For some reason that sets the mood for them. 2) avoid decorations and plants that could allow teeny-tiny fry to hide in that adults can't. We ended up with our fry because we had a pretty good sized clump of java moss on the bottom of the tank. The branches of the moss made a kind of labyrinth of caves that the fry could hide in, but the adults couldn't reach. The fry tend to like to stay close to the bottom until they're too big to be eaten, so keeping these kinds of hiding places off the very bottom should do the trick.
And of course, if you want to breed these guys, do the exact opposite of what I just said. ;)

fun little fish
I purchased 2 of these little fish and plan to pick up a few more for my 60 gal tank this weekeend. They were a bit shy the first 2 days but have since started schooling with my boesamani rainbows and cory cats. They're out and about more on their own as well & they're very active little guys!
