I'm having the same issue as a previous poster. The submersible pump is so strong it just pushes my beta around. I noticed the '+' '-' button but even turning the pump down (assuming that's what that does) it's to strong for the tank. I did however find if you turn the pump back toward the back of the tank it makes a little less current within the tank. I also noticed the beta swims more when the pump is on, and if I shut it off its almost as if he 'calms down'. Hopefully the current in the tank or the noise in the water from the pump running doesn't stress out my daughters fish to much.

I bought this tank for one of my betta fish that I've had for a few months now. My betta was previously in a 1 gallon fish bowl and I finally wanted to get him a proper tank. This tank is terrible. The filter creates too much of a current which pushes my betta all around the tank and creates a stressful environment. I hope I will be able to return it. Please do not buy this tank.

My daughter saved her money to buy this fish tank and it is an awful product. When we opened the box the first instruction was "Connect to an outlet hose (sold separately)." Are you fricking kidding me???? We buy a product in a box and then we have to go back to the store to buy another product! Nowhere on the outside of the box does it say that you need to buy a hose separately. So I called the number listed on the directions for help and she tells me that she only helps with online orders and I need to go back to the store. I will go back to the store to return this product and then go to another store to buy something different.

I bought this for my office and it worked great for several months, quiet and efficient. Then I brought it home over the holidays, and suddenly the light goes out every time you close the lid and the filter, while making a humming sound, isn't circulating the water. Another reviewer who he said he had nothing but a dirty tank probably got a bum filter motor.
Disappointed because so far it's been a fantastic little tank, but I guess this is what I get for going cheap.
I was able to open the light cover and tighten the light bulb which seems to fix that issue, but the pump is worthless and I can't find any way to order a replacement. An alternative would be to use the plastic tube with an air pump for a traditional undergravel air filter.
