Their unusual name suits them, as upside down catfish rarely swim upright. They prefer to swim upside down in search of food under leaves of plants are floating on the surface. This peaceful schooling fish hails from Africa and prefers to be in groups of three or more. The adult grows to 3 to 4 inches in length and generally lives 5 or more years.

Their light brown colored body is covered with dark brown blotches of various sizes. The coloration of the male is darker than the females. Interestingly, the underside of the body is darker hued, which is the opposite of fish that swim with their belly downwards. This reverse coloration serves to camouflage them when they swim at the surface of the water.

Feeding Habits
Prefers small live foods such as brine shrimp, blood worms, glass worms and tubifex worms. Frozen brine shrimp, plankton, beef heart, glass worms and blood worms. Freeze dried food will be accepted on occasion.

Africa: Moderately decorate with live plants, rocks and driftwood.
