Leaf Fish are carnivorous and eat aquatic crustaceans, worms, insect larvae and small fish, instead of plants. They will hide most of the time and need plenty of cover areas such as hardy plants and bogwood. They are generally peaceful with fish of the same size and temperament, but may eat fish that are small enough to fit into their mouths.

Leaf Fish spend most of the time hiding and waiting for food to come by, however you may see them swimming at the bottom and in the middle of your aquarium. To create a beautiful environment, be sure to add some top swimmers as well. Ask a PetSmart associate to help you choose.

Things to remember

Adding fish
Whether you're just starting your aquarium or introducing new fish into your tank, don't forget to add only 1-3 at a time.

Nutrition
Choose live foods such as small fish, tubifex worms, insect larvae and crustaceans. They can also be trained to eat pellet and frozen fish foods.

Frequent feedings
For optimum health, your Leaf Fish should be fed as much food as they will consume in 1-3 minutes, twice a day.

Aquarium
Leaf Fish need a large aquarium that's at least 30 gallons. A good rule of thumb is one gallon of water for every one inch of full-grown fish.

Décor
Decorate their aquarium with live or artificial plants, as well as natural or artificial rockwork, including a cave in which they can hide.

Fish compatibility
Leaf Fish can share their aquarium with other semi-aggressive fish of similar size.
