Remove pets from tank while setting up the environment. Use 1 to 2 lbs of gravel for every gallon of water. In a clean bucket, rinse the substrate thoroughly with clear water before using. Never use soap or detergent. Place a saucer on the gravel and pour tap water onto the saucer. This will prevent the water from disturbing the substrate. Add the contents of the enclosed packets to treat the tap water (follow the directions on each packet). Run all filters and pumps for 20 minutes before introducing turtle(s) and living plants into the environment. Some cloudiness may persist, so allow up to 24 hours for the water to clear. Once your aquarium is established, do not wash the gravel. Use a gravel vacuum once a month, or as needed, to remove loose debris.
