    Instructions: If water is flowing out of the overflow area, it is time to change the filter cartridge. To help maintain a healthy aquarium, change the filter cartridge every 3-4 weeks. Remove the cartridge when medicating the water as carbon will absorb medications. Change out 10% of the water weekly or 25% monthly. Use a water conditioner every time you add fresh tap water to your aquarium. Be sure your bucket is only used for aquarium water. Never use soap, detergents, or cleaning agents while cleaning the aquarium or equipment as they can harm your fish.

    Rated 1 out of 5 by You cant control the flow, and even though it says up to the aquarium amount, the flow output is way to strong for the recommended aquarium. This is not the first time i have had problems with TopFin products. A lot of their products tht i have purchased are either wrong, break, or dont work at all. The only products that do work are their medications. I do not recommend their filters. February 11, 2016
    Rated 3 out of 5 by Loud, but get's quieter. I bought two of these to go with the 46g bowfront & stand PetSmart had on sale recently. Love the thank and stand, but it didn't come with filtration so I picked up two of the TopFin 40 Power Filter's to try out. I'm not a fan of the way it's designed at all, and it's made from very cheap plastic, but it works. When I first cranked them up, I thought they were super loud, to the point where I took it apart because I thought they were broken inside where the motor and impeller are located. Everything checked out so I put it back together and just dealt with the noise. It did quiet down over time, but I still don't think it's nearly as quiet as some of the more expensive brands. All that having been said, I'm still using them and 6 months later no issues. The noise has subsided quite a bit over time. Pros - Cheap, very powerful (recommend getting an intake prefilter to go over the intake because it did suck in 2 small neon tetras as they swam by), seems to last and provides good filtration. Cons - Cheap plastic, louder than I care for, odd design that leaks if you don't set it properly. As I said, I wasn't happy at first, but now I'm OK with it. If they die out, I probably won't replace the filters with this brand, but if you're looking for a good cheap filter and don't mind a little noise, it's worth the price. 3 stars. January 28, 2016
