The Pod Tracker has impressed me!
I have only used it for a week but so far it's working great on Bella (our little 5.8 lbs Yorkie Mix).
I have tested the Locate feature on her in several places (woods, inside our car, in the house, etc.), each time the pod Tracker located Bella flawlessly on the iPhone app within 5-15 feet. I feel so much better knowing I can locate her if she escapes, which she constantly attempts.
The pod tracker app incorporates Google maps and is easy to use. Press "Locate Now" when you want to find your pet, then wait a little less than a minute until the Pod location and your location is updated on the App. After the initial location is updated the Pod Tracker seems to update much faster (every ten seconds or so) for about minute more before stopping to locate. If you need to locate the pet for longer than 1-2 minutes you will have to press the "Locate Now" again. At first I thought the 45 seconds to initially locate was a little long, but there is a lot of high tech going on....I think the process goes something like this:
1st. When you press "Locate Now" your phone calls the Pod Tracker via cellphone network (if Pod Tracker doesn't have cell coverage you are SOL).
2nd. The pod tracker starts looking for GPS satellites to determine its location (I suspect initial finding of satellites takes up most of the time).
3rd. The Pod Tracker "calls" your phone back with its location data (again via cellphone network).
Over the years I have come to expect inflated battery life promises from wireless devices, but the battery life rating of the Pod Tracker seems refreshingly realistic. The first battery was at 15% after 6 days in its most conservative operation mode (locate only). If you use the Safe Zone or Activity mode expect much shorter battery life.
The supplied mounting straps are extremely tight but after using a tiny bit of silicone lube it was much easier to fasten.
Bella has no issues at all wearing the pod tracker, I doubt any other available GPS would fit her little size.
I mounted the Pod Tracker to a 1/2" wide Lupine brand collar. The Lupine brand collars are excellent quality and available in a bit wider models than others brands, which made mounting the pod tracker more secure.
I usually don't do reviews but this product deserved one.
