I wasn't sure my cat was drinking enough water, so I thought the novelty of the Cat Mate Pet Fountain would make him drink more. Unfortunately, the thing never worked. The directions said the water would start flowing "after a short time." I gave it a chance a few times, but each time, even after waiting over an hour, the water just sat there. The machine was on, because I could feel the slight vibration in the base. One thing I noticed that the plug would get very hot, which was not a good sign; no matter where I plugged it in. I'm returning it, and getting my money back.

I bought the Cat Mate last Feb. & I found it easy to clean---but I did find you NEED to order many extra Filters when you order the Cat Mate because they won't ship them separate & they aren't sold in the store. I buy distilled water so I don't have to worry about calcium deposits or a skim on the top of the water. I clean the Cat Mate every four to six weeks.
Since I couldn't find any filters I took the old charcoal out and cut down a double thickness of a coffee filter. I put that between the blue walls of the filter. Works great for me & my cat.

I love this water fountain for my cats. I had two other water fountains before this one - one was small and eventually the motor died, the other was a great size but the motor started dying after a few months of use and it became very loud...
But this water fountain is the best, you snap it together in seconds, it takes less than 1 minute to change the filter and that's because you need to rinse the new filter with cold water before placing it in the fountain, it is so quiet you don't even know it's there. One of my cats likes to drink with her paw so I always had issues with cat hair getting stuck in the open parts of the motor....not an issue with this fountain. I wish I had found this fountain a long time ago!!

This fountain is great for a number of reasons! First, I love the way the fountain was designed. It's downward flowing design is perfect for my cats AND they are drinking more water than with any other fountain I've had before! Second, the fountain doesn't seem to get as dirty as quickly as other ones I've had. And finally the design of the fountain accommodates multiple cats drinking out of it.
Thank you Cat Mate! I have tried at least three or four other brands and I was almost ready to give up...thank you because I was concerned that my cats weren't getting enough water...not anymore though!
