We purchased this gate to prevent our dogs from entering the kitchen and it works great! We are renting our current home, so it's great that it is pressurized, you don't have to screw it in to the wall. It's pretty tall and there are no bars going sideways, so it would be very difficult for your dog to climb it. We don't use the small gate on bottom, but it looks like it would be convenient for a cat or small dog.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lark As pet parents to an elderly cat and a newly rescued 50+ pound 1 yr. old lab/bulldog mix dog, this gate has been a life saver! The cat spends most of her day sleeping on our bed and the dog was constantly jumping up on the bed to get the cat. The only problem we had with the gate was the small door opening was amazingly big enough for the 50+ pound dog to squeeze through! We were able to solve that little problem by cutting one of the 2 bars out of the small door and then leaving it latched. The cat can easily go through that opening.

Have this product for over a month now. No issues with the latching mechanism. Only concern that I have is that the top adjustable mechanism does not make the gate sturdy. To much pressure will not allow the gate door to close. If you have a big dog or dogs that can put considerable pressure on the gate use the expansion cups to help secure.
