The unique design of the Expand-A-Light fixtures allow them to be adjusted to size. They come complete with ballast and are ready to be added to a SeaClear fluorescent hood or most other aquarium/terrarium hoods. Bulbs sold separately. Electrically approved to UL® safety standards and are easy to install.

The SeaClear aquariums simply do not have adequate lighting. This fixture was easy to install in my SeaClear hood, and it gave the lighting boost that I needed.
Mine takes a T-8 bulb.

I used it for only a month and the light does not come on anymore. I've taken it apart and checked the wires and everything looks fine but still does not work.

Pros
-Fairly easy to install into an existing SeaClear (Casco) hood if you have the "slot" (many Casco hoods allow two fixtures but come with one) with basic tools (drill, pliers).
-Separate plug allows you to control the fixture via its own switch (or its own timer if desired).
-Built in (metallic) ballast does not require replaceable starter.
Cons
-ONLY ACCEPTS T12 bulbs! (Does NOT work with T8 bulbs which require an electronic ballast)
-Plug transformer ("the block") is at the outlet and not further up the cord so it may obstruct other outlets on your power strip.
