Top Fin Aquarium Power Filter
This filter moves water, but it is loud
I purchased this filter in the hope that it would be a good replacement for my busted kit AquaTech Power Filter 30-60 filter that had finally died after 6 or 7 years of fateful service. This unit is loud. It isn't a loud humming noise, or a loud waterfall noise. The impeller is loud as it moves water through the filter. It is much louder than my old kit filter ever was, and I used to run two of the exact same kit AquaTech Power Filter 30-60. This one filter was louder than both of those kit filters. It was, in fact, much louder than both of those filters. I could hear its impeller upstairs. I returned it. If you have a quiet area, you should be warned that this filter is going to disturb that peacefulness.

Do not believe other reviews
After reading all of the reviews I dreaded having this in my 5.5 gal kit, however now that it has been up and running for over a week I am finding I'm pleased with the filter. The noise the other reviews claim to be a problem results in not following directions (the filter must be filled with water and allowed to spill into the tank before start up and yes there is noise at start but calms down once water is flowing). The only reason why I did not give this 5 stars is simply due to the fact the current is very strong for my betta and I have to place a sponge in front of this filter to calm down the water current to allow my fish to eat without having to chase his food. Water is crystal clear after first water change. I do enjoy that the cartridge can either be replaced as a whole or I can simply change out the carbon if I wish. Big perk.

Terrible, doesn't even work.
I bought a 10 gallon filter for my tank and it worked for about a week or two before it stopped and made a really nasty sound, It was like a coffee machine but way louder. I noticed there was no water coming out of it at all. i took it back but at the time i really didn't have a bunch of money to spend so i got the same one (Which was a mistake). I got home and it didn't even work this time, it just made the loud noise again which really upset my fish. This filter isn't really worth the money and stress my fish have endured over the last few weeks. I highly recommend getting something else, personally i will be staying away from filters made by Top Fin.

I bought a Top Fin 20 gallon startup set for my bedroom and it came with one of these. It was too noise for any room that I planned on staying in for an extended period of time. I had to turn it off so I could sleep. It sounds a lot like a coffee maker brewing coffee, only it is a little louder and it never stops. This filter would be fine as long as you place your aquarium in a room that you don't spend much time in, or in a room that already has a lot of noise. Then you won't notice how loud it is.
