While I don't blame you for this PetsMart... no wait yes I do. It's a GREAT idea, and it seems like a lot of other dogs could figure it out but mine could not. I have to hold it open for him to get inside of it otherwise as you can see in the picture he just lays on the soft part. Essentially his bed is only 20% of what he could have. If there was a better way of keeping the opening more OPEN I think he could figure it out. I've tried putting cheeze its its in the back of the bed because I have no more dog treats. He definitely got the cheeze its and flipped the whole thing over and fell down the stairs. I dunno... he doesn't get it.
I'm returning it today

by Bennybadoo CARE AND WASHING INSTRUCTIONS FOR COZY CAVE
I noticed on reviewer had problems with being unable to machine wash the Cozy Cave Cover because she was unable to remove the top support tubing and the actual the bedding insert. There is no need to wash the cover by hand. It should be removed prior to cleaning.
Here are the instruction for removal of the Canopy(Hood) support tubing:
The Hood contains a piece of tubing for support. The Cover is removable, machine washable and dryable. The Hood contains a piece of tubing that must be removed before washing and reinserted after it is dried. Washing cover with tubing may cause the cover to tear.
Remove inner liner(container stuffing) and support tube from the Canopy(Hood) to machine wash and tumble dry. See instructions for Tubing removal below.
Assembly Instructions or Directions:
**** Support tube can be removed and reinserted via a small slit in the sherpa on the hood about 1" up from where the hood meets the bed portion.
Cautions: Be sure to remove tubing before washing or cover could tear!!!
My Jack Russell Terrier, Jake, liked his Cozy Cave from the very first day. I keep my house at 61-63 degrees so he appreciates being able to snuggle inside and keep warm and away from drafts and the cold floor.
The bed is very durable and the deep lofty filling keeps him well off the floor. If your dogs bed is too stuffed you can remove some of the fill from the liner and save it for replacement stuffing. This might give your dog more room inside if they have trouble getting in an overstuffed bed or they appear to feel claustrophobic.
I hope you find the review helpful.

I took the advice of many reviewers and took about 3/4 of a kitchen bagfull of stuffing out to add later. My very small dog crawled right in. She has figured out that if it is too warm she can fold back the hood and lay on top of it--then, if she gets cold, she will pull it up and scoot inside. She has also taken her favorite toys and stuffed them in the back corner where other pets can't reach them. this is a winner for her! I highly recommend this bed for small dogs.
