Without proper UVB lighting MBD occurs which leads to painful deformities, UVA rays stimulate a healthy appetite, activity, and over all well being of a reptile. UVA rays and heat combined are necessary for the well being of a reptile for a example a bearded dragon without proper lighting (UVB/UVA) and heat and adequate diet, will develop bone deformities, their internal organs will slowly start shutting down leading to impaction and or paralysis, and eventually death. As well though it is not stated on the box of the products, UVB bulbs all put a different UVB output out. For a reptile requiring a higher UVB output, a mercury vapor bulb is ideal. I think people need to do their research before confidently stating false information to others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Deezzy Other reviews are silly.
The other reviews on this product (only two so far) are way off. CHEs are a simple way to raise or maintain temperature. This bulb will raise the temperature of a terrarium by 5-15 degrees, depending on the wattage of the CHE you buy, the setup of your terrarium, and how you install it. And, if you have a three-sided mesh terrarium, yes the heat will escape and the temperature will not rise much (duh).
These bulbs provide no light source. And, they are made to provide heating when light is not required or wanted (i.e. during night time hours, or to help keep temperatures stable during other hours when further light is not needed).
Word of advice, a UVB compact bulb (like the ReptiGlo) is not a replacement for a CHE. Compact UVB bulbs are a bad idea in general as they can lead to eventual eye problems and bone disease.
So, if what you need is a lot of extra heat during the day, buy an appropriate wattage heating bulb. If what you need is to keep temperatures steady or slightly raised during the day, or to provide heat at night without shining a blacklight in your pet's eyes (also not recommended), then this product is great.
That's what it's made for and it does the job just fine. The price is also on par with normal CHEs.

Wife brought a reptile UVB Tropical Terrarium Bulb (Former Repti Glo 5.0 Compact), that uses 13 watts of energy made by EXO TERRA for our King snake. We are approaching winter is this the proper light for that season.

Rated 1 out of 5 by LAPueblan Complete Waste of Money!
I bought this for my main daytime heat source for my Pueblan and it only raised the temperature to about 75F, while my room temp was 70. However, my tank does have metal screen on 2 sides and the top. I bought this to replace my older 100watt ceramic bulb, but even after 4 yrs, it still put off more heat! Thankfully, I decided to buy the "Great Choice 150watt Daytime Incandescent Heat Bulb" along with this, just for the heck of it. It raised my temperature to 90 NINETY degrees and only cost $8! It also serves as a UV source. Unless you have a very shallow tank, I wouldn't even think twice. Save the money and buy some other bulb. A total waste.
