I've had danios since the first time i bought fish around four or more years ago. I still have a danio left and I really think its been longer then four years. Just recently one died tho but it didn't surprise me I didn't realize at the time how long they would live. I have the one in a twenty gallon with a few other fish tho. I have aquarium salt in my tank which seems to be very nice for my fish and I use water conditioner. They eat pretty much any food and I know mine really liked freeze dried brine shrimp. However I do think they do better with a partner. Since hes been alone he's not nearly as active as before. They use to chase my other fish a little but never bit them and almost always swam back and forth in the tank. But anyway over all great fish and quite hardy. P.S. they have been very jumpy for me and when I first got them i didn't have a lid and lost probably three due to them jumping out. So cover your tank.

good fish, but need a large tank
My giant danios live in a 12 gallon tank. I am considering giving them up because the seem to want more space. I have an albino and a normal. They are the only fish in the tank, and I want more fish. They get along fine with my four mystery snails.
Pros: active, nice looking
Cons: HYPERACTIVE, grow large

Territorial & Nippy
I got my Danio as the first fish in my 60 gallon. He was perfectly fine on his own, zipping around the tank and showing signs of content. I added fish a few days later, however. This Giant Danio began to chase the fish around the tank and would come very close to nipping their fins. Earlier today, it was being so territorial and nippy that the other fish ((all 11 of them)) were squished against the left side of the tank. I had to move him to the hospital tank, where he now resides. This aggression is most likely because he is not in a school, but I would definitely be careful.

very hardy fish
I bought four of these fish to start my aquarium about 8 months ago. They are all still alive and very active. I love that they are very friendly to new fish and that they are NOT FIN NIPPERS!
