Top Paw Dog Water Fountain
Works great if you know how to clean it
The instruction manual does say to clean it weekly, but it doesn't specify that you need to actually take the cover off the pump to clean it. I have been pulling my hair out for weeks, cleaning the entire fountain daily only to have the water slow to a trickle within a few minutes of cleaning. Thanks to the reviewers here, I realized maybe the pump needed more than external cleaning.
Here's what to do: remove the pump completely from the fountain (it is suction cupped to the bottom). You will need to pull one end of the cover off the pump. There are no tabs or indicators that you can do so, but the end that has the flow control lever pops off. You may need to pry it with a flathead or sharp edge. Removing this part of the cover will allow you to thoroughly clean the induction part inside the pump (I'm probably not calling it the right thing but you can see what I mean inside - it's a white piece that the water flows directly through.) It will become clogged with nasty junk which prevents proper flow and cannot be cleaned with the plastic cover on. Go ahead and thoroughly clean the part of the cover you removed also. It snaps right back on and should be fine for awhile, depending on how many animals you have.
Our animals love it and so do I when it's working right. I'd give it a 5 star rating if 1) it were easier to maintain and 2) the mfr directions for cleaning were more thorough.

Too hard to clean
Bottom-line: not recommended unless you are willing to dismantle the pump every week or two. I was about ready to return this fountain until I read the reviews here. The fountain had stopped running after about 2 weeks. I knew the instructions said to clean weekly, but never did I imagine that meant completely taking it apart, to include opening up the pump! Further, to me it looked like a single piece of plastic. It wasn’t until I read here that I realized what I was expected to do. If it clogs up so easily, why did they make it so hard to clean? And why didn’t they maybe include some tiny brushes, etc., for cleaning? I honestly thought I was going to break it when I tried to pry apart the pump. Use your fingernails – right! I used a thin knife, praying I didn’t break anything. I have a cat and a dog that shed, so the inside of the pump was plugged up with hair and bits of food and gunk. Disgusting. And now I must do this weekly? I’m only keeping it because my animals seem to like it. I got it because my dog likes to drink from pouring water. I took a tip from another reviewer and used a piece of nylon net to create an extra layer of filter. I'll see if that helps.

I've had the fountain for less than a year and the pump stopped. There are no replacement parts available at the store. I'll have to buy a new unit.
Lousy product and a waste of my money.

Lack Of Parts
I was impressed with the unit until the pump stopped working and I can't get a replacement... don't waste your money since you can't get parts...
