Red Wag Platy
This fish is VERY hardy, at least mine certainly are. They also are very beautiful fish and get along with other species of platy and the same species of platy as they are themselves. I have a red wag and a sunburst mickey mouse platy, they get along great with each other. The only problem is that my red wag platy is often chasing my male fancy guppy all over the place, but my other platy doesn't, so it probably only occurs in some platys to chase around other fish. However he leaves my neon tetras alone so that's a plus side to it I guess. Btw be sure not to overfeed them they get fat really easily

Great, hardy fish.. but so many fry.
These were the first 2 fish I got for my 20 gal, I'm a new tank owner so every level in my tank has been off at some point.. but they've both made it through. Definitely tough little guys.
The only downside is the number of babies they have.. I didn't know they sold male and female ones (I would assume Petsmart wouldn't want just anybody breeding fish) but now I have a population control problem. Hopefully by adding some Gouramis or Danios I can bring it back to a decent number.. otherwise they're great starter fish.

The best fish for tropical community aquariums!
Platies are great beginner fish and will fit into just about any tropical community aquarium. These brightly-colored fish are active, very cute, and fun to watch. As long as the other members of your aquarium are as peaceful and easygoing as a platy, it will fit right in. Platies are also very hardy and not too difficult to care for compared to some other species, making them great for anyone who is new to taking care of fish.
